Ever gone to a tackle shop and the owner(s) look at you as if you are a stranger walking through their front room during the Sunday Eastenders omnibus? Ever received trite or sarcastic remarks about innocent questions about product?

Or warm welcome and a hello, how things, what can I help you with, you catching much? openness...

I've experienced both ends of the spectrum. A certain shop in Newcastle and Whitley Bay being excellent, but one in North Shields making me question whether I really want to spend my hard earned there...

I only really use the shops in Hartlepool. Nets-the lads are great and then Charlie on the Friarage-smashing fella always cheerful and very helpful.

On a couple of visits to Whitby i have been in the shops and lads are not to bothered-but i,m not a regular.

Mick.

forgot to mention AMH at annfield Plain-- my real local shop. Alan and Craig spot on along with other lads that cover in the shop.

Yes and one i put up with for a few years then thought "Why"
Now i don't and take my hard earned somewhere else.
Must say though that the staff were great,it was just the owner that was a pain.
Which i sad as people jobs rely on him

It's odd eh? I'm not saying all tackle shops are inhospitable places - far from it - but they are social centres and and at the very least employees or owners need (in some places) to pay their customers a little more courtesy!

i cant stand i.d, all he wants is your cash and you need to be in the "click". the only shop i'll use is billy's in north shields, top bloke, cracking service and there's no "click"

aye like billy,s in north shields because he does the bait in front of you so you know what your getting ,unlike some other shops :( makes a big difference in the winter months

You go into one shop and the owner is superglued to the
seat or he is stuck in it :D do you know where i meen.

Big rosy cheeks, what little hair slicked back , waist coat... looks a bit like a fat butcher???? na nee idea mate

I mainly use NETS in Sunderland as ive always found the staff helpful and friendly, there seems to have been a bit of a switch around recently so its not all the same people but its still pretty friendly. i was in there yesterday and was served by someone i had never seen before and he still offered to let me have a look in the bait room at the stuff i wanted, cant really argue with that.

I always go to Reelsport in South Shields,
I've only been fishing for about 2 yrs but from day 1 I've never experieced anything like what you said, or felt excluded from a 'fishing clique'
There's always a bit chat/craic and the staff are always happy to give advice when asked, no need to go anywhere else.

Cannot go past davey at trading post, sunderland.
Wheighs the worm in front of you, happy to give good advice & has got the best prices around.

i find no matter what or where your buying some ppl have there off days,,nice 1 minute then not the next its hard to work with the public and keep a smile every day

i bought 5 bags of rag a few weeks ago in a certain shop on the outskirts of newcastle and because the lady that served me went into a back room to get my ragworm i decided to weight it when i got home and found that the total weight of the actual worms was short of what i had paid for so its billys for me from now on

Happened to me once as well, bait was done in the back and was just a bag of mush when I checked (back at home).
I like Billys, especially when he's wearing his clowns suit and big shoes, doing cartwheels & backflips as he serves you. He got me with a squirty flower in his lapel last week....hilarious. I mean he's even got a comedy dwarf to help him in the shop! Now thats what I call service

I could understand people sticking with local shops and its good to be supporting them but for me for tackle and advice Hardys great lads cant help you enough sea or freshwater, its worth a visit as there own little museum is interesting.

The reason I first went was because I broke my fly rod when I told the guy he got on the phone to international rescue out the back guy came up and just asked me what happened how long I had it and give me a new one and we where talking about a 350 quid rod, then I mentioned my casting problem and he offered the wife a cupa and a seat while he gave me a casting lesson on the pond outside, now that's service
