So your mate falls asleep, you leave without saying something and hope he picks your gear up for you? Sounds like superskunk was to blame for this incident. Whatever the reason it only adds fuel to the fire for making the pier harder to access illegally.

When Group 4 take over looking after the pier it will be like a fortress anyway, I heard planning had been applied for a "supergate" that will end tresspass onto the pier.

What a waste of time, resources and money. The guy that was left on the pier probably did the right thing in the circumstances, im assuming he had already tried to contact his pal and couldnt. However i would not be impressed if it was my pal that had left me on the pier, then again i did see the waves coming over the pier yesterday afternoon and neither of them should have been on there. Thankfully none of the rescuers were hurt either.

was at a meeting at the Little Haven Hotel and saw the rescue services, why didn't the bloke left phone his mate to see if he was alright. Hope he wasnt playing a prank on him, sounds like it to me.

I was talking to the watchman tonight who is himself an angler. He reckons Port of tyne are prosecuting the lad for tresspass and the police are planning on more checks. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen but there was still a queue waiting to get on tonight. He also confirmed that security was being stepped up, but by which methods were still yet to be confirmed, possibly 24 hr security or cctv with more secure gates.

Thankfully the sea has dropped off so those going on tonight should be ok, i myself take risks when fishing but the events of the last winter have made me seriously reconsider those risks and i take longer to watch the sea/wave action and evaluate each mark that bit more than i used too. Thankfully no-one lost theyre life last night but someone else might have needed those brave guys that were out there searching for someone that was safe in the house.

What an utter prick. All that time and money and the life's of the emergency services put at risk. What kind of ******** leaves their gear and goes home? He should be billed.
