sorry roker just checked the mighty bright sticker is wrong for bass says 36cm sorry mate

People tend to get confused as some clubs have landing sizr of 41cm but legal size 36cm

I a was fishing a comp a asked the organiser size limit he said 41 must be trying to save the stocks same rule should apply to cod size a think it should be raised to 45 cm club or not mite help them revive the stock

*sigh*

MLS for Bass is 36 cm for both the North East and the Northumberland IFCA:

Minimum Landing Sizes

It is a moot point whether or not MLS apply to recreational shore anglers anyway. There is a current legal opinion that they do not and that MLS apply only to fish caught for commercial purposes. Of course no-one is going to volunteer to be nicked and hauled before the court to set the legal precedent, but the wording in the legislation does appear only to refer to commercial catches.

so why do some say fisheries websites say 41?

Each IFCA can set it's own size limits providing these do not go under the relevant EU minimum size for that fish. I don't know of any IFCA that has a size bigger than the EU 36cm for Bass; the commercial fishing interests who dominate the IFCA's would never stand for it.

The interesting ones are the "non-commercial" species like Flounder, Dab, Black Bream etc with no EU minimum size. Many IFCA's do not have minimum sizes for these either (NE IFCA doesn't have a MLS for any of these).

comps and clubs may set different landing sizes for the day

there has been an article put out recently that the legal landing size for bass may be changed cant remember the exact size without reading it again but was going to be either 46cm or 48cm to give the bass at least one chance to spawn before they can be targeted for the pot by commercial fisherman to help replenish stocks.

similar thing was done in ireland and now look at there bass stocks compared to ours.
