mmsi numbers

Goona get meself a gps chartplotter and want to use the nema 0183 to connect it to my dsc radio, but how do i get the mmsi, do i need to have a licence first? is there a charge for mmsi? can i request the number online, any advice will be appreciated.

You can do it all on line via the offcom website , and it's free , you get an mmsi no and a licence , I did it but sold my boat and kept the radio for my new boat and I think it's all bolloxed up now as apparently the mmsi no stays with the boat and once it's in the radio you can't get it back out again or something like that :confused::rolleyes:

just done it all recent as mentioned in previous posts all done on line via the ofcom site. You get all the numbers you require.

I'm sure you can change the boat details on line if you sell it.

Sure this licence allows you to use the radio in times of emergency which is the only time I would use it realy. Handy to have a print out of the emergency procedure handy if needed.

Good luck connected the gps and radio they can be a bugger sometimes......
