there has been a monster mackerel caught off Seaham north pier, it is a new Seaham club record, a Northern Federation of Sea Angling Societies record and is the biggest by far I have recorded for the NE coats from Scarborough to Berwick, details and hopefully photo in tomorrows Journal, that's unless you have already read about it in the Chronicle

Definitely here - could have caught hundreds literally on Shields last night. I had to stop spinning after half an hour cos I couldn't have carried any more.

Cheers lads, will get down the pier for an hour on saturday, hopefully bag some mackerel, then go down the rocks again, ive ordered some isome and some firetails, so will give them a try.

Must be a big one then.

We had about 30 over 3lb mark two weeks ago and they was the biggest mackerel i have seen (checked on the scales not guessed:- 3lb 3oz the biggest one) I think the record is something like 5-6lb for the UK.

Look forward to the pic's...our big boys got turned into Ling bait :)

you should of let me know I have only got two that have been officially weighed and sent to me biggest is 2lb 1oz, send me details Rich and will add to my list

The Biggest one that was landed and weighted was caught by Derek Wilkinson not me Alan but out of the ones we caught most between 2lb and 3lb with that one being the biggest, only landed 3-4miles out and tried the next day and none to be had from that mark...if you check my report from June the 29th i think i said then the size of them.

Never bothered contacting you as its a mile of the UK record so thought nothing of them.

Had one off shields pier when I was a teen many many moons ago officially weighed at 3lb 1oz. Caught on a spinner at the toilet block. It was like hanging onto a train!!

I once caught a mackerel, and it truly was a monster.
When i started lifting it out of the water,i realised it had eight legs, red eyes,
and fangs. It then let rip a terrifying fart, shot up the pier wall, and when it was
eye level it breathed fire on me coat, and had me running round the pier end
ablaze.
Anyway, once i pulled myself together,i swore that i would never again put
my head in a carrier bag smeared with evo stick, even if there was nowt
catching....and i haven't:)
