Hi Folks, long time no see!

After trials at making Soft Plastics last year, this year I thought I'd try my hand at Hard Plastic Lures. That's basically where I've been hiding the last 6 months....lol

I've decided to have a bash at the non-traditional way of manufacture and opted for 3D printing rather than moulding. 3D printing allows a higher level of customisation and speed which enables changes to the design fairly often without having to reproduce a mould cavity each time.

I've designed the lures using CAD then had them 3D printed, after a few design tweaks (to make the assembly easier) they are ready for painting. The whole process has been really enjoyable so far, although I'm really struggling with the painting as I don't have the patience!

I've attached a few photo's below in the printed, assembly and pre finished painted (primed) state.

I've also just finished my first one! Swims ok in the bath! Ready for Sea trials…..the missus & kids bought me a GoPro for xmas so hopefully get some videos up soon!

lol....aye I might give this fishing lark a go this year, didn't get much done last season. I'm itching to get cracking now. changed jobs and had loads of work in the house to do last year, so time was tight. Hopefully, I'll have more free time this year!

They look brilliant mate. I hope they are a success.

You should make some in joker flashing plate seeing as ima don't make it anymore.

Ah right. I didn't know they made more. They must be good if people were paying that sort of money for them.

No better or worse than other komomos but a good colour for night time . Clever marketing , a lot of people reporting getting fish on them , then become in short supply and the hype around them grows and some people get sucked in to the hype and bingo a legend is born

Nice one mate! Did you use shapeways for the printing?

I made a couple of designs for lures last yeah but never printed them lol

No Carl, I modelled them in SolidWorks and used 3DPRINTUK online service to print them. I'm looking into buying my own printer when the prices come down further.

You should try it, like I say, its the painting that's the frustrating bit for me.
