I took this photo in SW Scotland but had the camera set to low res. If you zoom in you can see it's a bird with it's beak open and maybe carrying something

Any ideas?

hmmm maybe it would help if I posted the pic doh

How far away was it? It's a bit hard to tell whether it was something little close-up or something a bit bigger a bit further away…

It's also a bit hard to tell which end's which! ;)

Geographical area you spotted this bird and the Habitat it has flew out of suggests a corncrake - trailing legs and red plummage also make me think its a corncrake

The RSPB: Corncrake

its a blurred snap ,but the beak is not hooked ,so i dont think its an Osprey

It looks far too small to be an Osprey, here's a zoomed in shot.

I would also go for something like a Corncrake or maybe a Fieldfare.

The shed is right up against the tree so the pic would reflect the actual size of the bird. There's a pair of Ospreys nesting very close to the cottage so one of them looks the favorite although corncrake sounds likely too.

It's hard to imagine two birds less alike than osprey and corncrake - one's incredibly shy and about the size of a moorhen and hardly ever comes out of the tall grass; and the other's a bloody great big eagle sort of thing, which can pluck a salmon out of the water without even breaking into a sweat!

I normally have the camera set to at least 3 million megapixels but I had to email the pics so kept resolution to a min.

I reckon the bird would be the size of a wood pidgeon so if it's an osprey it would have to be very young. To the right of the shed is a field with long grass and the bird looks to be flying upwards so it could be a spooked corncrake

Name that bird, easy Willy the woodcock, Freddy the fieldfare, or Clive the corncrake, but oissie the osprey, naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa chance

Cullercoats just North of Marconi point (North crab hill)

Here's another taken in 2006 when we had them massive tides
