names!!!

Is there no policys in place for other people registering a name the same as a current member or very similar,i have noticed a(davyb)on here personally dont think it a gud idea,just my view.Has there been any problems like this before on here,bit like registering e.mail account,cant do it if it already in use.

Hi Davey, unfortunately the system doesn't let us know if there is a name that is close to or the same as another one. I have had to change a few names recently as the site is getting busier. Sometimes I will recognise a name when they try to register and tell the person to chose another but I can't remember every name that is being used so obviously some will be used more than once.

If anyone is having problems please let me know and I will sort it out.

I have come a cropper on the odd occassion thinkinbg putting the wrong name to the web name in my articles, now check as many as I can from a list I have made up. Would be nice if everybody could send me their web names and proper names saves me chasing them up when, notice when not if, you get a big catch or fish

I didn't realise somebody with a similar name was registered.
I will either try to change log on name, or setup a new account.

Hi davyb it's not a case of upsetting anyone mate just a big possibility for confusion. It is not your fault or anyone's really, as I said the forum does not let us know if names have been used or not.

If you want to sort out a new name, send me a PM and I will do it for you straight away, it will be there for your next log in. Your password will still be the same so no need to change it.

what if you choose one thats very close to someone elses?? id just stick with the name you have and change your avatar to one that stands out, that way people would tell the difference between your posts and the other guys.

It can still cause confusion mate, there have been a few times when PMs have gone to the wrong people and one time the same profile came up for two different people. There is a full list of usernames at the top of the forum if you send me a name davyb I can check that it isn't too close to anything else.

Na m8 you havent,woz merely making a point that if it were possible that could sumit be done when registering to stop this happening in future.
