NE Moorings

Looking for info on alternative moorings this year - got a few feelers out but any info would be greatfully received. Anyone know of possibilities on The Wear? Pontoons at S'land Marina are out due to cost and I believe we are too big for the chain moorings there (44ft)? Any other ideas? Also interested in suitable spots on Tyne.

You could try SSBAC not sure of the cost.

I'm sure Bert will have some contact details, he's offline at the moment but you could give him a ring.

Spoken to Bert, Keith. He's having an ask around. Any ideas on contacts further up The Wear? I've e-mailed the council and marina about chain moorings. Mooch down the fish quay I suppose wouldn't do any harm.

Ell, I was moored at C and J Marine at Howdon for a few months, they are possibly worth talking to, also they have a slip that the trawlers tend to use and a crane for lifts, they are just about a mile up Tyne from the Royal quays on the same side, right next to the Tyne tunnel.

hadn't thought about them tommy, and I was down there a few weeks back, when they were chopping an old trawler up, right next to that place the Ell refers to as 'work' as well

st Pete's is ok, but the tidal restrictions are a pain, and we're just that wee bit big it would seem for some places, and unless **** Syms at RQ gets abducted by aliens in the coming months, I don't think they'll be putting the welcome flags out for us

I think thats it bloody stupid that you cant come to RQ, have you been down recently and seen the amount of netters and trawlers that are in there....there is more than enough space to acomodate pansie tied up against the boat yard walls if he does'nt want you on a pontoon, your money is a s good as everyone else's and it would be great to see you's down there....have you though of complaining to the head office???

Thanks for the responses soo far, much appreciated - might have a contact re: moorings near The Ropery in S/Land, he was a few sheets to the wind the neet like but ..........Anyone else know about the moorings down there? Will give C&J a ring, thanks Tommy.

Also had a decko down RQ today - we'd look like tits on a bull!

the guy is a joke, in the world according to t wat syms, a survey is irrelevant (unless he does it), we have to pay more to moor against the wall than anyone else would pay on a pontoon (published rates are 'advisory' apparently), and he must approve all works to be done and they have to be done only by contractors he approves, and apparently if we were to want to take her out regularly, and have parties of mates on board, that wouldn't be allowed either, as it might mean there's more cars than usual in the car park which would mean his yottie chums might need to walk an extra 25yards to massage their ego's and drink G&T's on their floating 'style accessories' (lets face it they don't do much sailing)

a policy that clearly is working as we are seeing a few boats moving up to st pete's because of the man, including one of the charters

the netters and trawlers are in there because he can't stop them, part of the contract Crest Nicholson agreed to when they took the place on, and they pay a fraction of what everyone else pays as well. Toyed with the idea of getting her re-registered and coded just to **** him off

I might go in and see him again this year about moorings even if its just for the sport of winding him up

Chill out man :)

The management reserve the right to refuse admission. If I was running his business I wouldn't have us!

Unless Bobly wrote me a letter of course ;)

Ell if I had I'd be chukking lead off a marlin boat in the pacific instead of continuing my blanking sessions on Tynemouth beach.
