Just to put some costs into perspective, I\'ve been doing some sums:

In only a few short years, NESA has raised £7,035 for the RNLI.
That figure is fantastic on its\' own, but when you understand just what that money is enough to provide, it\'s a STAGGERING amount.

To kit out each member of a lifeboat crew costs £440.

The largest of the RNLI boats is the Severn class (Tynemouth has a Severn class boat) and it has 6 crew. The money NESA has raised is enough to kit out the crew of TWO AND A HALF Severn class boats.......that\'s 2.5 lifeboat stations

The Atlantic 75 boats have a crew of 3. The money NESA has raised is enough to kit out the crew of over 5 Atlantic 75s......that\'s over 5 lifeboat stations

For a rather more sobering view of \"costs\", take a look here.......

If we want to raise more money, why not a sponsered bike ride from South Shields, down the coastline to either Whitby or Scarborough. Should be good fun specialy for us older guys.

Craig / Mike,
I really don\'t think we need to do any more than we\'re already doing.

The boat comps in May along with the shore comps in November - each preceeded by an on-line auction gets the fund raising balance just about right, I think.

Last thing I want is \"fund-raising overload\" as it\'ll only mean that people will (quite rightly), get fed up with the fund raising aspect of NESA.

I think that just plodding along the way we are is just fine.......if you can call over £7000 in a few short years \"plodding\" ;)

Don\'t forget Ian\'s fine efforts with the dom card at work, he\'s raised a canny amount :D (I might even win a dom card one day)

Yep, that\'s very true Keith.......For those who aren\'t aware, IanW runs a domino card at his workplace and the money raised from both the boat and the shore comps usually get a hefty boost from the lads at Siemmens through Ians\' domino card.

I know what you mean Alan but at least if anything does happen shore or at sea we can say we did our part in the rescue by part funding the RNLI workers and there stations.

The RNLI need all the help they can get and anyone of us could be calling on them day or night.

The people of Blyth summed up how much the north east population respect and want the service of the RNLI along with the Tyne and Wear stations.

If your not already off shore members of the RNLI why not join up that way your still giving money without overloading on events. You also get a nice sticker for your boat or car to show your support.

Mike, if you want to organise something like that bike ride go ahead mate. It doesn\'t have to be a part of NESA. I and some friends did a sponsored \"shave\" a while back and although it was advertised on here for the RNLI, most of the money was made away from here for the reason Tony said.
Have a go mate, might even get some owldies off here to help lol. I was just thinking about the session at the other end as I have done a couple of trips like that.
We did ours in a relay so that the same people were not having to ride all the way.
We had a sweep on how long it would take at a pound a shot and made quite a bit of money through it.

I echo Jims\' comments wholeheartedly.....Just because I think that NESA has it\'s fair share of fundraising events already, doesn\'t mean that I\'d DIS-courage ANYBODY from raising a bit for the RNLI themselves.

The shaving session Jim mentioned was a great success, with a good number of NESA members sponsoring him - Mick done this years\' GNR to raise money for the RNLI and again, a good number of those on here sponsored him.
I do a bit myself - away from the site

When all\'s said & done, it all goes towards the same cause.

I just feel that NESA does enough already without it becoming over-intrusive on the site.

Aye well said Tony.
I think your idea is a good one Mike and people could get involved in a lot of different ways. Now is the time to start thinking about it as you have the whole winter to plan it mate.

Jim.

We used to do our bike rides in stages with two riders at a time Tony. Take all the bikes to the venue and then ride back the next day. Had a couple of gooduns at Thirsk and Kirby Lonsdale lol :P :D

Jim.

TC/Jim, I would love to attempt the ride. They do one from Layburn to Hawes every year. It is well organised by the local police. The objectb is to ride your bike from Layburn to Hawes ( 17 mile ) stopping and having a drink at every pub on the way ( 23 ). If you fail, the police put you in the back of a horse box and take you back to layburn to sober up. I have only managed to do the complete ride once and I have attempted it 8 times. Would any of the lads and lasses on NESA be up for that one.
