NESA Species Hunt 2013

Table updated lads.

Toonboymc I have put that down as a shore rockling as it does not have the dark spots that a three bearded rockling has. Of course I am no expert so if someone can positively identify it as a 3B I will change it?

Three Bearded Rockling

That is the blurriest pouting I have ever seen :D:D:D

Oneforthepot your Dad's name made me laugh and is appropriate for that wee codling :D

That could be another eel pout, do you have any other photos showing the head / barbules etc ??

That was my assessment too, looks too long for a rockling and it seems to have an orangey tinge to the fins and dark banding you can just make out. Anything else it could be?

Agree. Doesn't look like a Slug to me, and I've caught plenty of them in my time. Based on the photo I would also say Eelpout but from that angle a positive identification is tricky

Without more clear photos it makes identification near impossible, but it does look like an eelpout.

Sorry only got that pic with my dino phone;)

It did have an orangy tinge and brownish blotches. Iirc it did not ave any barbules and was VERY wriggley and liveley. I remember cursing the thing as it wrapped my snood line around itself.

Heres the same pic lightened, wich shows the colouration a little better.

All three species of rockling have either 3 or 5 barbules, from your description and no other photos its more than likely an eelpout. Great addition to your species count , I know I will struggle to get one on a lure. Well done
