Ok so thats 2000 views .Think we all agree that the piers are mank and if we all want to continue fishing them ( apart from phil lol ) we need to do something about it . Any objections from any one if i try ? ? May not see results this year but going forward it has got to be worth a try . May be banging my head on a wall but i love fishing off all types and hate to see what is going on .
Would like to think the owners of this site have been reading all these posts too . If they have objections please pm me as i dont want to do the wrong thing by nesa . Love this site , love the banter , love fishing .

It sounds like you want to have the piers marshalled and only fishermen who pay can fish...I can tell you I would not be impressed if I had to pay to use a public tourist attraction because of some bad eggs, the chav brigade only fish summer, but a whole lot more people fish every part of the year, they are real fishermen and most respect the area and tidy up after themselves, so by going ahread and giving the council reason to restrict or charge fishermen to fish, does not sit well with me, nor will it sit well with a lot of other people who don't partake of the makki bash phenomenon.

same here , put me on horden or Easington beaches and im sorted , prefer it to a concrete structure anyday . A lot of pier people are out of the car people , granted some are disabled or unhealthy and cant make the walk to the beach , but a lot are lazy , have crap gear and cant cast for toffee ..

It takes a good angler with a good cast and local knowledge to get the best results from shields pier . A lot head for the beaches to avoid the snags.

no ones saying people cant fish or its about gear etc etc , im talking about piers and the kind of anglers or a lot of so called anglers they attract , because come the winter in the cold and raging northerly swells etc , you don't see these people at all . The term used is " fair weather fishermen"

Chavs may be an unpleasant irritation and their women folk aren't easy on the eye ... but they don't generally put other peoples lives at risk.

lol ... just playing devils advocate ... on behalf of the chavs ... as they are mostly illiterate and incapable of forwarding a coherent defence on their own behalf.

in reality ... no mate ... there is no excuse for the way they go on. But there are plenty of 'hardcore' fishermen who need to have a look at themselves and their behaviour too. I live very close to some popular cliffs and walk them and the beach regularly. I've often seen guys fishing the cliffs in the worst weather of winter and the junk some leave behind is often unbelievable.

I'm just saying there are a sprinkling of d*ckheads everywhere.

No i am not tarring all good fisherman ,in fact it is the reverse . I dont want to be tarred . I want to be seen as a responsible angler , which is very hard when up to your knees in the crap that is left behind by others . Im not sure paying is the answer , but there are piers all over the country that you pay to fish , they have drop nets , bait boards etc . cant be that bad really .

there are total dickheads in every sphere of our society from the prime minister down, always has been always will be, but the one thing that has changed in our society is respect, 40 years ago when I started fishing I was also a bit of a dickhead thought I knew everything but when a older angler told me to tidy my mess up I would, no argument, the difference now is if I told a young angler to tidy there mess up all I would get is f##k off daft c##t and I am sorry to say that's the way it is today and there is really no answer to it, its endemic throughout our society nobody gives a flying f##k about anything except themselves

Took my daughter to Roker for a couple of hours this evening to try and catch her first mackerel. Got about 150 metres from the end and couldn't take her any further. Just too many charvas , inches apart, smoking weed, Cnut every other word and obviously the obligatory 8 cans of fosters. It's bloody sickening not feeling able to introduce kids to fishing because of them. Stayed an hour-she got a little scorpion fish and a small coalie on the float. I blanked on the plug. At least I saw a couple of cops cycle down the end to show a presence.

There is a few honesty boxes in scotland on the golf courses i have played. Must be nicer people iin scotland as the honesty box on roker pier would be raided more times than jordans knickers. Oh then set on fire

We were on tour on Mull one year and a Doctor friend of mine went off golfing. He returned about 40 mins later and said "Only had 3 balls in my bag and lost them all on the 2nd hole. Thank God I didn't put any money in the honesty box!!"

Haha courses in scotland are hard not the courses so much as the blowing wind and rain lol spent 5 months working in. Dunbar digs were 400yds from the beach thought brilliant i think in 5 months i got out 3 times easterly winds constantly lol

Really....will you still be saying that if they asked for £100 a year or more? because Sunderland council are like that, they'll price it so they'll make a huge profit.
Also, you have to be careful who you approach, there is a HUGE conflict of interests within the council and some certain people and establishments...there are reasons why there is a distinct lack of a certain business in a certain locale....and you know that when there is issues like that, bringing a moneyspinner like that to their attention will backfire in a BIG way.
