Any advice on a new Boat reel. Edging towards a TLD15. Be using it for Shadding mainly and abit Jigging etc.
Cheers for any advice.

For shadding i would be looking at a higher retrieve rate, something like a slosh 30, penn 535, avet or a daiwa saltist all have 6:1 to 1 retreives

30 and 535 fine for light boat work:)

use them for jigging in the north sea and end up with a pile of scrap metal:)

tld will cover all situations:D:D:D and still be functioning next season.

stevo changed my mind:D:D:D:D:D:D

I'm erring towards even a 525 with 30lb fine braid this year...maybe?

The 3 reels i use on the boat are, 535 x 1 and 525 x 2, they are great for shadding and wrecking, i reckon the stick these reels get pulling in fish through kelp and snaggs off the shore, they are more than capable of pulling fish up vertically, they have high retrieve rate...but dont wind so fast when you have a fish on. When you dont have a fish on wind like hell and it flys back up to the surface for the next drift :D Just a personal choice but i cant see the point of huge reels to fish our waters...:)

So you only use a Penn 525 on the boat ?
Would never of thought possible. But your comment makes me think like.

I used a 525 on my first trip on the JFK and struggled, I wouldnt recommend using one on a boat

private boats tend to fish lighter than someone on a charter.

private boats can come and go as they want, have more time to experiment play fish, take 15 mins to get you fish in on a charter and see how popular especially if on a wreck

charter boats you have 10 or 8 hrs and you got to fish hard to make the most of it:)

A 535 may cope a bit better but all in all they are not boat reels, BestNest fishes charter boats and excess use of a 525 on a charter boat wrecking wont last 2 minutes, In my opinion of course
