The now 18 month ritual of deciding on an upgrade has begun with mine due in 2 weeks time...

My requirements:

GPS enabled
Decent camera phone
Web Browser
NOT Touch screen

anyone got any suggestions?

:)

Been looking myself and it seem bloody hard to get a decent phone that is not touch screen.
Same as you, heard to many bad reports to want one

The prob I can see is that the phone market is about to go through a major change in the way it offers its services. All the "non i-phone" companies have just opened up their operating systems to make themselves more competitive in the Apps market which is where Apple have p'd all over everyone at present; so we could end up with a lot of phones in the "middle range" until they get things how they want them

Also I'm spoilt by having a very decent camera phone in the Sony Ericcson C905...the logical step would be the Satio (12.1 mp camera) but this a totally touchscreen phone and I've heard very average feedback on it so far...

...so I'm led to the Sony Ericcson W995 which is the same but different and perhaps just wait and see where the Phone market leads to...

I'd love the i-phone in theory but only if it had a decent camera function...

choices choices :yltype::D

Sony Ericsson have got 3 good phones out now mate but there are also some great Nokias and Blackberry's are great for what you use a phone for ;)

Go into the Carphone Warehouse and get the newest magazine and read up about them all.
You know what i'm like for phones and i love my Blackberry but can't wait to get another i-phone!! They are just amazing!!!!

what do you want a camera or a phone!

I think all phone cameras are pants to be honest, the mega pixel arguement is irrelevant when you know & understand how small the image sensors are and how they manage to claim whatever amount of megapixels, most of the sensors are tiny, they use software to invent the extra pixels. to get a true 12 megapixels you're image sensor needs to be an inch and a half square,

3 to 5 megapixels in my phone does a good job, if I want a decent picture I use one of them camera things!

agree on the all technicalities but for taking pics and vids "on the move" you can't beat a decent camera phone...considering where they came from when the first ones came out they've come a long way...anyway a camera AND a phone would be two things to carry wouldn't it? :D

I'd love an Iphone but no way I could justify a £30+ per month contract.

I managed to blag a Nokia N97 from vodafone for nowt, not bad consdiering I only pay £10 per month. It takes canny pics & video, built in sat nav gets a fix very quickly, querty keyboard & mouse makes broswing fairly easy AND you can make calls with it :D

Nokia N97 mini is a top top phone.
Nokia X6 16gb is getting good reports but is touchscreen.
Nokia N900 very new and expensive, all three 5mp camera
Nokia E71 and E72 are good phones for networking look similar to Blackberry

Which brings me to....

Blackberry 9520 Storm 2
Blackberry 9700 Bold
Blackberry 8900Curve, all 3.2mp cameras but good quality photos.

Sony ericsson Vivaz has 8.1mpcam and a HD screen!!!
Sony ericsson Satio great 12.1mp camera but quite a big phone
Sony ericsson W995 is a nice phone, wife hasgot one but the others are new out!!
Sony ericsson Xperia X10 has the new Android technology so will keepyou busy for a while

Then there is the Iphone that does just about everything....ok it's not the best looking and may not have the best features but it has something of everything and is so much more than just a phone......got to be a must have for the gadget man!! ;)

funnily enough, the vid part of the iphone is probably the best video camera phone out there - it shoots at full res of the camera rather than downsampled to 640px or whatever

as for the pics, depends what you're intended en use of them is, for web, even 2 megapixels is too big, I've printed 6x4 prints from photos I've taken on mine and they are certainly acceptable
