new reel for heavy ground??????

Yeah, if on a tight budget look for a second hand SL30 or a Penn 535 GS, you should pick up either in good nick for £40-£50.

Why a 9000C

Why a 9000C

ABU 9000C - 40lb line. You can get a good old one for £50 on ebay

Just to qualify why the 9000C -the dual gears is why. It's high gear is not quite as fast as the new reels at 5.3 but if you get a decent fish you can winch it in when it drops gear. A decent fish with a 6:1 gear ratio will stop you dead and you will need to pump it in. Seen many fish lost when you drop the rod tip in the kelp jungles.

Saying that there's nowt wrong with the other reels mentioned either just my personal preference.

Another nod for the Slosh30 here, picked mine up and a Slosh20 on the recommends of the group and more than happy with both of them, especially at the price they're at brand new.

I just use a saltist or a 525 at the moment loaded with 30lb line and a 80lb rubbing leader, but the abu 7000 would be a good choice or one of the new akios reels the 757 looks a great bit of kit I'm thinking of getting one of these myself.
Hope this helps
Brian

another vote for the slosh 30 or the 535 gs, all of the above are good reels in their own right but you need not spent a fortune for good gear.

Saltist 30H.... 30lb Tournament mono + 80lb rubbing leader or 30lb straight through, you'll never need another rough ground set-up...backed up with a decent rod you could pull the plug out..... :D
