For plugging any of the Shimano reels around the 4000 size are good. The Shimano Exage is probably the cheapest, around the 55 quid mark, canny reels as long as you give them a good rinse with fresh water after a session.

Okuma Cedros spinning reels are excelent although a bit pricy at around the £80 mark. they are actually originally designed for jigging off a boat so are very robust and strong. although designed for a boat they make superb medium sized spinning reels, don't be put off by the larger than normall handle (i had reservations about this before i bought one) it is very comfortable and practical when using. it is an ideal size for pollock etc, highly recomended.

I use a shimano 5000 aero baitrunner for spinning and plugging never had any problems.

ive been told the penn captiva is a good lure reel, you can get them on ebay 2nd h about £30 they seem to be the reel of plugs at the mo

Shimano baitrunner 6000's are on offer in Argos for £39.99, can't fall off for that price like. Excellent spinning/ plugging reel and a pleasure to use.

Just a thought but if you are plugging with a light short rod, anything bigger than a 4000 size reel is probably going to be a bit big, maybe putting the rod out of balance.
