New Rod

Well since i never made it at the weekend i am heading down at 11am today to sort a to-do list for her lift out, glad i waited its a sunny day outside :)

Going to wet a line in the mariner, will pos ta catch report lol

Stingray 1st of the season catch report 1/3/10

Well with the sun out i decided to head down the boat, i spent about 1hr checking her over and cleaning some of the seagull poow off. Everything was ok, i had come armed with some mackerel so off i went, 1st drop nothing, 2nd drop a crab, 3rd drop a crab....by this time it was getting choppy, think the lock gates ahd opened but the wind was still light.

Baited up again and went to clean the cabin out, popped my head out and seen a bite...fish on a 3" blenny :) so down it went again. i then set about changing the filter and when i looked up i had a slack line, the heart pounded but then i realised i had just walk to the same sid eof the boat as all the tools and was a further 3 foot down on that side :)

Anyway headed back in..that long walk off the pontoon with the 1st fish of the season :)

On a serious note it was a cracking day and if i had of had all my gear on i would have been out today :)

I have 17th or 18th of April as my 1st trip of the season :) and depending on the catch it could be the start of 1 per week until it really kicks off mid-late May then its 2-3 a week...weather on my side of course...so 2-3 a month then :(

I Keep getting asked for fresh cod and people dont understand why i dont take her out in winter...i tell you one 5hr plus trip in winter will make them understand in a cold NE wind with frost on the ground :)

Still it was light at 6.40am this morning and never got dark until 5.50pm and with the clocks changing on the 27th of this month its all looking up

Suggest you have a full week in Tony and tie like crazy :) ..... :)

For reference .... this was 2009 20th March

Am over a dozen and a half rigs in now and me hands are raw already :D

I've either lost a muppeted 6/0 or I made one snood length short...I'll soon find out when she yelps from the sofa I suppose :o:D

I have 17th or 18th of April as my 1st trip of the season :) /QUOTE]

You may have more time than expected to sort some rigs out. Here's a quote from the Royal Quays:

"Date for Annual Lock Shutdown (Tuesday 6 to Monday 19 April 2010)

We planning to undertake a closedown of the lock between the above dates. During this time it will not be possible for boats to lock in or out of the marina. The dates are provisional at the moment, but will be confirmed shortly. The shutdown will allow for essential maintenance work and will involve dewatering the lock."
