my new sounder arrived today from the US of A.

i thought i would try a wee sneaky one on the customs and rather than get it sent direct from the dealer i got it sent to my mates daughter in texas and she forwarded it on to myself packaged as a gift.

it arrived today at my shop and there was no extra to pay...yes result!!! sneaked one in under the radar.

total cost for it was £250, i have just seen it advertised for the first time here in one of the mags @ £400

a bit of good luck at last....makes up for me not getting a fish yeaterday :P

it took a wee bit longer (about 4 weeks) but worth the wait for the saving in my book

I got a lead melter from the states, the supplier was kind enough to put $19.99 on the package, but as it happens, I didn\'t get charged any duty :D

hi dave,

i got a Lowrance X136DF, dual frequency model, top of the range, i hope its better than my X85, it has more power (4000 watts against 3000 on my X85) and more pixels (480x480 against 320x320)

it\'s 192kz and 50kz, so i hope it gives me better depth penetration for places like the firth of lorne and loch etive, also the 50kz has a wider beam and should make finding wrecks easier

right, new plotter next...lol ;)

Les,

Check out the Garmin 182c , fantastic . Tells you the tides for next zillion years and the rolling road is spot on . Chances are the American bought ones will work ok here with right Bluechart , it\'s got just about every known wreck on it too :)

dave,

the garmin is a bit on the expensive side, i\'m looking at the lowrance 3300c, they run on navionics gold charts, with a garmin i would need to buy two or three separate charts, with the gold charts i can cover the whole of scotland for £220 with a XL3 chart, and the plotter is only £370, good enough for me, and i have someone wanting to buy my old plotter already :D

all i need to do is learn to work the thing properly :casstet:

anyway, the fish aren\'t always on the wrecks you know....at least not up here anyway ;)

If you need 3 charts Les it will cost a packet , your not wrong :o . I mostly do wrecking so it\'s dead handy for me , but it can become a fixation :P Good luck with it anyway .

you\'re right dave, wrecking can be a fixation, i enjoy the boat handling bit of it, tagging drifts etc getting it right gives big satisfaction, its just up here a lot of the times you can sail 5-8 miles out and you have left all the fish behind :casstet:
