Newbiggen open

Trouble with comps these day bounderies are to big and the weigh-in to short, had the same trouble at the amble open years ago next year they added an extra half hour then a few years later they extended the boundries and shortend the weigh-in time back to 1 hour, what was the logic behind that given the roads and parking its just asking for an accident to happen

totally agree the weigh in should be a hour long plus the the time it takes to get from the furthest point of the bounderies so everyone has the chance to fish till the end of the comp then drive safetly to the weigh in

i think there would of been a bigger turn out had the tickets been for sale earlier the seation sluice one was perfect brilliantly ran but buying your tickets from one place then everyone having a mad dash is dangerous and old hat with the size of the boundries to if there that big they should have a longer weigh in allow the lads to get up to sea houses and then plenty of time to get back

I know from experience how hard it is to get the balance. Earlier ticket sales and bigger boundries allows those that go out to cheat more chance (I know they are few and far between but they are out there, we caught one). Many though refuse a booklet with their tickets so how do they know what rules the club is running, some run two hook some run three for example. At the end of the day it's up to the angler to get themselves back. Bend the rules for one and you open a can of worms.

an hour and 15min shud be long enough to get back from anywhere..
i mite be wrong but i think newbiggin has the longest weigh in time of all the opens..
we fished craster and had to stop at the garage at amble when our oil light stated flashing and still got back 40min before the end of the weigh in

If I had an 8lb fish to weigh in, I'd make bloody certain I was back in time !

Competition rules are the same for everyone, and the vast majority manage.

What happens if you catch that 8lb fish last 5 minutes of hte comp then run into traffic on the country lanes north of amble whre there's not much chance of over taking? chances are yuor not the only one being held up

i am not questioning letting people be late and weigh in am just sayin if the bounderies are so big they should have to for health and safety reasons alone extend the weigh in time

fish most of my comps at craster never been late back yet. if ya have fish to weigh in you leave that little bit earlier and if it was caught in the last 5 min of comp get ya runnin shoes on but should still be able to make weigh in with time to spare

A comps can be won or lost in the last five min

The Seaton sluice open was 2hrs weigh on and was too long IMO and 1hr is ample except for say the holderness matches where you often have to travel to find a fishable beach and the weigh in is not central.. Most lads don't want to be hanging around for hrs. Personally a comp should be about angling ability not about catching fish from some hidden mark. Boundaries are getting too big. Numbers used to be massive and boundaries were often Tyne to Blyth or Tyne to Druridge. Plenty big enough for a competition. Many anglers me included don't want to be wasting fuel travelling 30 miles up to the coast. People would be surprised what can be caught on their doorstep and would do well to learn marks rather than it becoming a lucky dip!

The reason we made it 2 hrs was so people could fish the hole match and not worry about getting back without accidents plus a lot of marks fish better on the flood and your last cast is as good as your first?? just here'd on Sunday John bells car was upside down in a field and that was just going to his mark, if you've got a double in your car or a good bag of fish you will take chances I would!!!
When it comes to boundaries the fishing is becoming harder and harder so more scope is needed to keep everyone happy from the match angler to the pleasure angler if you want to spend £30 on diesel that's upto you nobody is forcing you

hard linesfor the lad the weigh in was tight, 2,30 finish would have been safer i was at craster and left the rocks at 12,50 got back in plenty of time but most of the time we were stuck behind a camper van so that slowed us down i think at times you have to use ya loaf and leave that bit early where was the lad fishing , jamcod

As in previous years, the tickets were on sale for the whole week before the comp from various local tackle shops!
ID Fishing, Sports and Lesiure, McDermotts, Frazers Angling, Amble Angling Centre, Angler's United, Newbiggin Pet Shop.
The majority of ticket sales came from the tackle shops, Angler's United taking 90 odd alone.

Don't think there saying the club is rubbish just the thread is about weigh in times?

We are all responsible adults and should read the rules and make a decision based on them, conditions, and other factors. Rules apply to the roads and in life too, whether we like them or not! So to say people will speed is up to them! Their choice and their risk the same as staying on a flooding rock mark, its a risk. Leave at the right time! Leave too late its your decision and your responsible.

To say you need bigger boundaries is not the answer, when do we stop. Take the sea league as an example, most enjoy the competitiveness of it and just get on with fishing in the allocated area and are often surprised by whats about. Huge boundaries just open up competitions to luck and cheating and don't reward skill. Pegged or zoned matches certainly do.

I would like to see a return to smaller boundaries, Tyne to Blyth, Tyne to Druridge, Cambois to Amble, Amble to Seahouses. Would make matches much less of a lottery and give them an identity.
