Newbiggin Beach

Well by the time Lynn eventually deigned to arise this morning... shower, wash her hair, blow dry it and straighten it, we left the caravan just after midday!

Drove up to Ashington to the tackle shop there for some bait and bits and bobs. I thought the guy in the tackle shop in Blyth must have a twin, but no, same guy! He kindly microwaved the frozen mackerel for use so that we could us it right away.

We had a look at Sandy Bay but the rollers went out too far, so we went back to Newbiggin Bay about an hour before high water....about 2 hours after I wanted to get there. :( Weather changed by the half hour.

What is the significance of this please?

Anyway to the fishing. On a boat Lynn does all her own rigs, bait etc but onshore muggins here has to do it. Ragworms "bite" apparently, so I tied the rigs, baited up and of course cast out, as she cannot cast for toffee, or any other sweetie.

She also has a strange concept of sharing a rod, more like hogging it! About 4 casts later and with bites each time, she could not hook up so I took over. Unfortunately it was the same for me, just could't connect. All too soon it was her turn again, so I cast out for her and here is the result.

A small plaice, lovely markings on it. I was so pleased for her!

My turn came and went, then the biting wind came back and the surf swamped her wellies, so we headed back to the caravan.

Holiday score:

Lynn - 1 whiting, 1 plaice.

Mark - Well I think you already know.:mad:

PS Thanks Fisherman58 at least the rod was christened!

The sculpture is called Couple. Apparently it is the only offshore artwork in the country. I'm not too artistic but it is what it is, an anonymous couple staring out to sea. Make of it what you will. Like most of the North East artworks it was quite controversial when installed, but like the others they become part of the scenery and in the case of the Angel it has become a symbol of Gateshead.

When will you ever learn Lynn will out fish you any time any place.
I don't know why you even try.:D
Next time you go fishing with her when she's not looking reel in her rod and cut her hooks off ;).

its about a couple who have been fishing, she has caught, again, and he hasnt, again:exclam:they are looking out to the vast expanse of water in front of them, and the lady is saying,im so glad you are with me:heartpump: TO PUT THE WORMS ON AND CAST for me:exclam::exclam::exclam:

She has a cute bum!! :o

You should be an art critic mate!:D

Hehe. Well I realise they have to be looking out to sea, but surely they could have been placed at a 45 degree angle, so that at least you could see them front on from some parts of the bay? That would make more sense to me.

I mean what about all the boob lovers :red:

Nice one bud. Good to see yous enjoying our coast. Nice little place to fish aswel. Far right hand corner is usually most productive if you fish it again

Opposite end from church is called green rock and a great mark in the winter. Just fish the beach about 29 yards before there. Used to be a lovely gulley although this does sometimes shift depending on the seas. Prior to the breakwater and all the sand being there it was a top mark and has still thrown out some good flounders

Thanks, will maybe try that tomorrow. So it is 29 yards and not 20 or 30 yards from the rocks? :) I think your typing skills are the same as mine. :)

Cheers mate.

Will either try there, or maybe Blyth Pier, see how the weather and hangover is!

Thanks guys.

Mark

Ha, 3 uses of plaice in the one sentence, impressive Chris!

I did wonder why I had not received a slagging off Rob this week? Now I know! :)

As they say, it isn't over until the fat lady sings..........and there are 2 days left!
