NEXT:- A good quality rod rest?

I'm slowly working through getting rid of my unused stuff and building up my sea fishing kit.

I reckon it's time I had a decent rod rest

any recommendations please?

Can't go too far wrong with Ian Golds - I use the 6ft, some like the 7. There are heavier, adjustable ones like the Shakey Salt or MTI - might be better if you don't have to lug them around too much, but for general purpose I swear by my Goldsie.

I've had every thing from sand spikes to tripods and monopods over the last 40 something years, I bought a 6ft single head/cup Ian Golds tripod back in 1987 and its still going strong best stand I've ever had

Parker do a good tripod too. I bought a telescopic 4ft to 8ft tripod with bottom cups and pro-swivel top cups. Extends to 8 ft when you want it to but telescopes down to 4 ft to fit cross ways in the boot of the car ! Search Ebay for Parker tripod 4ft to 8ft.

had my salt one for about 4yrs and have had no problems Ive got the shelter that fits around it as well but have never used it probably the best bit of kit my lass bought me without telling or getting cash off her to buy (she liked the colour)

Like g-force said the Ian golds ones are light and do an ok job, I've got one if I'm fishing marks I have to walk more than half a mile or so.
Otherwise its the Mti for me, everyone hates it as its so heavy (8lb) but I love it for that very reason!

Goldsy all day long for me. Had an MTI and it is a great rest but it weighs a ton and as it has steel components it will rust up on you after a while.

The Goldsy is very light and plenty stable enough if you fit the leg lock kit. Only place I've had any bother with mine is on the slab at Shields when the wind is howling straight down the pier

The Mti comes into its own in extreme conditions though!
Which parts are steel Stuart? Bought mine second hand so no idea how old it is, but no rust so far?

Had mine since they first came out and it's ben very well used. Firstly the telescopic part of the back leg seized in place and wouldn't budge though this wasn't really a problem. What was a problem was when the bolt that secures the butt cups rusted in to place; no amount of WD 40 or brute force and ignorance with a pair of mole grips would get it to undo.

By contrast I bought my first Goldsy tripod in about 1985 and although it has since been superseded by a 6' version it is still in perfect condition, all bolts as free as the day my old man bought it for me as a birthday present

IMAX telescopic are the dogs , get a mesh arm bait support and all your gear will go in it , easy to bait up and watch ya tip and once locked ya can put ya reel on ratchet and walk up the beach with the whole lot , not cheap but very stable . And can extend over 6 feet to keep ya line away from the swells .
If ya rock or cliff fishing any stable tripod will do ..

Salt for me and all the better as I got it FOC from Mog on here, top piece of kit, very sturdy and looks good. I'd buy the matching shelter too at some point if anyone can recommend it.

I've got the original Ian golds 5ft tripod. Light, sturdy had it about 18 years fishing in all weather's and never let me down. Can't go wrong mate.

I can afford to buy a one, at least using the money I make on clearing out stuff I've accumulated in the past. That's how I bought my box,trolley and new surfblaster, it just takes a little while to get stuff sold off

It's looking like the Golds one is the most used/favoured
