night time illumination

Hi everyone,

I have the led headlamp for fishing, but was wondering if anyone can recommmend a suitable lamp to use for a bit more illumination of the fishing area. I have heard that the fuel lamps are a PITA so was wondering if a rechargeable lamp would be suitable and if anyone could recommend one?

cheers

Stu

like wise no probs and if its brassy weather keeps you and food warm, i adapted a perforated devider out of a pressure cooker and that gos under the top nut and makes a tray to heat up pies soup in a tin (make sure you puncture the can first ) any thing you want.

I\'ve had my Northstar for about 4 years now and never had any bother. And, since it runs on petrol, I dont have a problem even with extended sessions. When it\'s light, just extinguish it and fill it up when cool, and when it\'s running, it is a great hand/ soup/suasage roll warmer.

I do find that the filter/funnel that I got with my Coleman stove (for more sophisticated al fresco dining) is perfect for filling the Northstar too, and the filtered petrol in a little jar is ideal for servicing reels, and a lot cheaper than lighter fuel..

I go for one, mate.

i used to use a couple of them night safety lights (AA batterys )the sort you see for kids rooms ,had them stuck on the inside of my box lid with double sided sticky foam great for light but dont keep you warm, wouldnt mind a coleman myself ...maybe for next winter ;)

I have a total hate for lamps when I am fishing. I agree with Alan get a decent headlamp less to hump about.
I find these lamps dangerous on the rock marks as they leave \"black holes\" when you are moving around.

Jim.

I\'ve got a northstar which I use if I\'m not going to be moving about much (Blast, Balcary etc), but I always have my Tiga on my head no matter what. Agree with you jim, you get black holes outside the lamps range

I hate any type of lamp for fishing, bloody dangerous things especially on the rocks, they teporarily blind you if you look at them.....................buy a good quality headlamp and be done with it, plenty on the market, i use a tiga

Our lass bought me a northstar a few years ago for xmas, only ever used it once whilst fishing port mulgrave, fell over more times than enough because of the shadows the bloody thing cast.
They are a danger when fishing any rock mark.
She (the wife) aint that pleased that its been shoved in the shed ever since (tough). might come in handy if we ever have a power cut. ;)

on the beaches in lincolnshire / norfolk etc where I used to fish , you could make a static camp with a Bivvy and leave the lamp inside . It was warm as toast in there , but on the move - same as the lads say - headlamp . I have a miners lamp but its heavy , Bobs is a lot better .

your not wrong there Davey, excellent lamp but that bloody battery is heavy, still worth every penny in my book for clambering across rocks

Have to say I hate it when someone turns up with a Tilley lamp....for the same reason Bob mentioned.

Nowt worse than not being able to see where your walking.

Go for a headlamp every time.

Infact I use two.

The Tiga sits in the side pocket of my rucksack, which I use for illuminating the way to the mark.

The use a ron thompson 7 led lamp when there.

MFA do an electric \"base camp\" light for about fifty quid.

It looks like a car battery with a bulb on top but would stop any problems with bait contamination.
Have you tried those \"10 BILLION (or there abouts) candle power\" spotlights? I imagine they would be great for spotting fish coming through the surf (not much use to me then)?
Possible danger to shipping and nowegian night anglers eyesight though!
