Hi lads, had a short trip over to Skarnsundet fishcamp near Trondheim in Norway over the past weekend. We fished from Thursday evening to Monday evening and flew out from Gatwick for next to nowt. lol!
As always on these trips a crisp £10 note is put into the kitty by all making the winnings this time for the heaviest fish a cool £60.
We picked our six man hire van up at the airport and headed North to the fishcamp about an hour and a half up the road, with yours truly, dodgy Dave at the wheel. I've never drove a big van, drove on the right or on thick snow and ice before but did manage to just about get us there in one piece after only a couple of brown trouser moments! lol
An easy first evenings fishing was had on the pier infront of the apartments where cod to 9lb and Haddock to 5lb were caught by the lads. We had two Norway fishing newbies on the trip and in the back of my mind I hoped they would land some nice fish to make their trip special.
Norway fishing newbie, Irish Dave's new pb 5lb Haddock on the first night.
Cod to 9lb for Nicky to...
Along with a few smaller Haddock and codling for the lads.
The next evening we hit Stu's point a fairly shallow mark near Straumen. Here it was haddock, dab and small codling during daylight.
Double shot for Nicky. Nothing big but hopes wre high as darkness approached. A very short video for you. Norway 2013 020 - YouTube
The first good fish was a 10lb'er for Dave from Walker who was fishing Norway for the first time.
Gregg from Cramlington pulled a few decent ones out along with the rest of us to.
It was then that the luck of the Irish struck with Irish Dave taking the biggest fish of our trip at 14lb 2 ounces. A new pb that was followed by a few more codling to.
Nicky once again was into the 9lbers and was pulling in fish with just about each cast for the first few days, jammy sod!
So some exciting fishing for us all that day which really helped to make our trip special.
Over the next day or two fishing was quieter with the onset of the big tides but we did manage some good ones from Straumen point with a good number between 4lb to 13 lb.
Daza from Byker with a new pb and cracker that weighed in just over 13lb. Good things come to those who wait.
An 11lb'er for Dave who managed two doubles on his first trip to the area. Well done!
Nicky as always on fire with a 9lber here and a 9lber there lol!
A few more pics for you below, I hope you've enjoyed the read.
These fish are stunning and the markings are unreal right down to the eyeballs!
Temperatures during daytime hovered around minus 10 and at night went down between minus 15 and minus 20 at times. If your dressed well for these temperatures then it's not a problem and we spent many hours out in the cold but still evenings. Great fishing weather for cod! Best baits were bluey, ragworm and frozen blacks.
Irish Dave won the big prize for our small sea angling forum's heaviest cod and heaviest haddock on the trip with fish of 14lb and 5lb.
A great trip with some great lads, personally I can't wait to do it all again. Thanks for your company lads.
