Novice needing some help!

Ive been fishing now for about 2 years. I generally go with a friend who now lives in London and only comes back up occasionally, which means i only get out occasionally. I want to start going on my own more but don\'t have the confidence in my own knowledge and ability to make traces, times and places to fish etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i might better my limited skills and start landing something that actually resembles a fish i.e. books, websites etc?

I\'d recommend you join a club or go fishing with someone. Buying sea angler or total sea fishing regularly is a good idea too. It\'s taken me a couple of years to master the basics.

Tell people on the board where you live and they may come out with you.

Just ask on here and someone will either take you or meet with you somewhere. All the lads on here are more than helpfull with venues rigs etc.

jason

Locally I tend to limit myself to the piers (blyth/shields) and the beaches between druridge and blyth. I only came back to fishing after a 20 year lay off a couple of years back, and know what its like as a relative newbie - things had changed a lot!, but we are a pretty friendly bunch.

If you want a trip out let me know and I can pick you up on the way through. I work from home mostly so am pretty free most of the time and always happy for an excuse to get out and have a chuck

A good Ice breaker could be a few beers in the Zetland on thursday night for the RLNI cheque hand over. There will hopefully be a good number of the folks from here in there, and I am sure if you put a few names to faces it will get things moving - you\'d be certain of a warm welcome, just don\'t mention pirks to Tony (TC ;) )

As for clubs well, I suppose your in one already - this one!

Well said marc, this has really turned out to be a club and a half.
Johnpaulc, if you can make it to the zetland on thursday you`ll have made the first step :) look out for us we`ll all be wearing a red rose in our lapels ...... NOT LOL :) come along and join in mate

Sounds good to me - excellent way to introduce people to NESA.
How about we have a night out EVERY time we get a new member?...lol....only to be sociable, like, you understand ;)

Hi johnpaulc,

I thought I would let you know that you are not the only novice here :) I only started fishing six months ago, so you are really an old hand if youv\'e been fishing for two years.

NESA is a great forum, everyone is serious about fishing, but no one takes themselves to seriously (well not often ;)) .There is a wealth of knowledge on this board and you will find that NESA members are more than willing to share their expertise - even if they don\'t have any! (i.e. me :))

I hope you can make it to the Earl of Zetland on thursday, but either way welcome to NESA.

johnpaulc I can only echo what Mark said. if you want to meet some of the lads come to the Zetland on Thursday night. If you can\"t make it drop me an email cos you are more than welcome to join me this weekend when I go out. Even if it\"s just for some crack. I can pick you up on the way too.

Cheers Lads for the warm welcome to the site, the invitations and encouragement. I am working late on Thursday night but may be able to get down to the Zetland for around 930 if anyone will still be around. Where exactly in N,Shields is the Zetland?

Willywetegg, when are you going out at the weekend?

The Zetland is down past the royal quays retail park and the scandanavian ferry terminal. just keep going down there as far as the road will take you. you\'ll come to marina car park, the zetland is a big old boat in the dock!

have look at this thread:

Mail Alan Charlton for a list of clubs affiliated to the Northern Federation of Sea Anglers. (don\'t have his address to hand)

New Hartley is a small club fishing around the coast and don\'t take things too seriously, mail me if you want to come along and we can sort something out. Anyone else welcome for that matter.

J P just to echo what peter is saying as I fish for New Hartley as well and would wellcome u on board as they are a canny bunch of lads and only too happy to help anyone out chrs Matty.

you should get your self down to seaton sluice club on sunday after 1-0 clock. that is the time of the weigh in of their open comp.there you will see loads of top anglers weighing their fish. if you p.m me ill give you my mobile number and could meet you and introduce you to some lads who would gladly show you how to go on at the sea angling game.
