Which would have looked much better still in the water. :(

Is Marlin a delicacy or something, if not what a total waste!! :casstet:

I know that in the Marlin World Cup all of the marlin are given to the locals. I\'d imagine it would taste like swordfish, and if it does I\'m all in favour of eating it. :D

Had Marlin once in Spain, nice, but imho, a magnificent creature like that should have been photographed tagged and released in this day and age.

Just for info, it would taste very much like swordfish.......... because it is a swordfish, not a marlin. Nice fish, but would have looked even better, released to fight another day. Swordfish are becoming scarcer each season due to commercial longlining taking many thousands each year, although the odd angler taking one is not going to make much of an impact.

That same picture prompted a bit of debate over on the anglers net forums last week.

The lads that fish for these swordfish put up a good defence for the killing of a few fish. They also corrected a few other people on the identification of swordfish and Marlin.

There seems to be a very well managed fishery over there, unlike ours. As you say Doc, it seems to be the longliners who cause the problems. As usual............
