Off to Essex Tomorrow.

I'm off to Essex tomorrow to view a Merry Fisher 635 that i've left a holding deposit on. Along with all the obvious checks there is the Cutlass Bearing, not had much experience with inboards so i would be grateful if someone could advise me on how to check it. Is it a case of holding the prop and checking for play similar to checking a car wheel bearing. Any other advice when buying inboards would be great........

Thanks for that Axe, its interesting reading, I just got back from Essex and bought the boat, I pick it up next weekend.....Cant wait..:)

nice one hope it brings you the same enjoyment it has to that guys report (and im jealous lol)

Thanks for the replies lads, I will post some pics next week but if you want to have a peek, go on Essex Boatyards and in the search put Merry Fisher 635, take no notice of the price, i paid well short of it, Its also on the WSF site in the boat classified section, page 2. I was in touch with the owner but his new boat arrived before i sold mine and it went to brokerage so he told me to put an offer in.......Let me know what you think guys........

Saw the boat on wsf a while back mate looks the dogs danglies bet you cant wait to get it up here and get it out hope it catches you plenty mate dean

Now that's more like it man , I couldn't understand why you wanted to move from a riever to an explorer elite ,( sideways at best) , that's a proper fishing boat :) Good luck with her.

I've bottled towing it back and going to get the boatyard to bring it up, they're doing it for £500 which is very reasonable considering they are fully insured, using thier diesel and experienced at towing heavy boats long distances, not a complete divvy like me.... Only problem is i have to wait a week come tuesday, which is another 3 days witout a boat :(. Just want to thank everyone who has replied to my posts while i've been looking for a new boat, all the info and opinions has helped me to make up my mind in what can be a boating minefield.....Cheers lads....:D....Isn't NESA great..:)

im looking to buy a boat in the near future and this one has tickled my fancy aswell...altho i havent told the wife the price yet lol

Yes Arthur i think i will re-name the boat, cant get my head round the name....BACCARUDA ?......everyone will think i cant spell . Going to name it Jester 2 i think but will have to remove all traces of the other name, superstition and all that. In the boatyard down essex there was a boat named Lazy Daze, was'nt as nice as yours though Arthur.....;)

Axe,If you can afford it just buy one mate, i've hummed and haaad over the money for weeks and in the end i thought you only live once and work hard so bo££ocks i bought it....Plus the missus said i could get one . Think she's sick of me constantly being on the laptop..looking at boats..

Its going on the maria Deano, had intended to tow it back myself after buying a cheap trailer for it and spending £300 on bearings etc, but when i saw the height and width i got a reality check. They look a lot bigger out the water mate.
