Well after watching the forcast all week the plans were made me and Dad off from newbiggin at 8.30am sea was like a mill pond but unfortunately didn't last long first stop was straight out from dulce carrs I picked up one undersize codling then one about 2lb nothing followed so headed north off the beacons hit into codling for both of us this continued till the breeze picked up putting a chop on which made it hard in our boat to repeat drifts so anchored up and bait fished (rag, mussel and runnydown) got the odd one but all in the 2 to 3lb bracket.
At about 1.30pm decided to try drifts again hitting into more codling straight away but what a manic drift speed found a pinnacle of hard ground so anchored up again on the hit zone steady away all in all we had 23 keepers and must have returned 10 which were lip hooked and told to come back in two year lol.
Headed in at 4.30pm finished filleting at 7pm both had a canny day out usually something bigger knocking about but not this time we did notice how fit the fish were in the tide pull great sport:)

Nice to see you reporting again Ivan :) , same story as me up at Cresswell , loads of fish but nothing very big , mind you hooking three at a time makes you think it's a biggie  Might try and spend more time on the wrecks next time out ;)

That’s a good haul this early in the year Ivan.

Anchoring over a productive spot has featured a lot in the recent reports accounting for a disproportionate number of fish. Something I’ve learned for early next season.

Good to read your first report for a while Ivan, like you say, nowt very big, but a great pan size. Trouble is, the more you catch, the longer the filleting goes on. Once them peelers are on the shoreline, the big bruisers will move in:D

Great report as ever Ivan mate, those size fish (as I've said a few times) may not be the stuff of dreams and big reports but certainly make for more and nicer plate of fish'n'chips than the bigger variety.

nice one mate, keep em coming
