Peeler prices

bloody hxxx last time i got crabs they where £35 for 100 devon peelers, great big things as well, and if they wherer small the bloke used to give you two for one. Guess them days are long gone.

It is very expensive, but certainly not a rip off. Everyone has the choice of whether to make a bid or not. The bidders are putting the prices up, not the dealers. I might just buy loads next season early on and wait till about this time and put them on fleabay too I have no sympathy whatsoever for the people paying it, they deserve it lol. Just imagine what they would have to sell them for if everyone had an attack of common sense and completely ignored these adds.

Jim.

yes long gone, forget about crabbing for 300 plus crab anywhere.its more like 50 plus a few more depending where you travel.west is caplunked, same as wales, and home ports are very patchy.whats wrong. to warm of water or too many collecting, but those who start out fishing want the best bait to catch fish and the fish are playing hard to find too.a guess the lads who have the knowledge of years ago can remember you could catch fish with any sort of bait.only those who had the best would acheive beter results/catches.

Lug and squid combination seems to do me fine, I don't believe in paying vast amounts of money for bait which isn't even guaranteed to catch you fish.

ive bought about 70 quid of peeler this year. next year iam buying nowt.in my opinion its over rated ive caught more on rag and lugand razor.

Yep i agree.
I didn't bother at all this year and all my best fish and good sessions have been with good black lug.
I sometimes feel people think it is some wonder bait and forget that you have to be in the right place regardless of what is on your hook.

I dont agree lads iv had 4 trips out and every time iv had either 2 to 3 poeple with me. out ov the 4 trips thay all got nowt bar one collie.I was using crab and had no less then 3 codling each trip and the best bieng 6 coding and 2 ov them were 5lb ers.Crab give off alot more scent than lug and squid i use lug and crab and its never failed me.On a night cod need to use scent more than being able to see ie,more scent more chance ov a cod.I do now and agian use a sliver ov squid but just for visual effect

just my opion and personal experiance lads

peeler to me is overated, iv,e used it loads of times with so and so results, for me rag, squid, lug and razor clams in any combination is far better.:red::red::red:

the eternal optomist [you have to be if you fish my marks]

well in my own opinion and past experiance ive been fishing a few times just with frozen squid and its outfished any crab and lug cocktails or any other bait for that fact i think those prices are a joke but at the end of the day its the bidders that are makin them as high as they are

Depends where you're fishing, and the ground you're fishing over. There are marks where crab (fresh or frozen) will outfish any other baits, particularly river marks.

Theres a mark I fish on the Old North at Sunderland where crab will outfish worm everytime, particulary velvet/eater crab.

As for crab itself, give me frozen velvets or eater peelers everytime.

i have just getting in from fish the tyne at ss bait used rag and lug tipped with squid 10 fish
the lad next to me crab and macky 2 fish

The fella selling live crab on ebay is actually breaking ebay rules by selling live animals. and also sending live animals thru the post is not alowed either.

He'l be kicked off soon.

My other hobby is maintaining a reef aquarium and I buy a lot of livestock from ebay. As far as I am aware the rules don't apply to aquatic livestock.

£1 a crab is not bad. Cheaper in summer! But you pay £2 to £2.50 for lug and need 2 or 3 at least to make a decent bait so they work out at almost as much per chuck.
I've not caught loads of fish but my better 1's were on crab. Fished the walkway a while back with 3 mates and used lug catching a few yting but i switched to frozen peeler and caught the best fish of the night a codling on it.
