Fellas - I was wondering if anyone has any views on the best paint/tape for decorating pirks. I was thinking of silver Hammorite...

Any advice much appreciated.

Tom

I use silver tape used by ventilation installers, really shiny and sticks like hell. If you want some i'll sort it out for you....Free of course..:) I change the colours of the hokeyes, muppets and shads but stay silver with the pirks.......

I use silver tape, I think it's duct tape, Lidl usually sell it when they have diy offers.

You get a pretty good finish if you rub it with a cloth after applying.

I'm sure Mr Charlton has not long placed a post regarding colours and which are seen the longest and the shortest in water. Red was the colour reported to disapeare first and blue/black the last. Was some study carried out by one of those gentlemen sporting a white coat. Mr Charlton!

In all the years I have boat fished, won't say how long, the further I went out the darker the pirk/lure used to get more fish, with black taking the most well off for some reason. Don't think the amount of light you get at 200 foot would be any different to 400 foot, but it must as when the water is coloured you don't get as many fish, but what makes a black pirk stick out among the reds/yellows/oranges etc. There was a study done, did have it on video but somebody copied a film over it. They used different shapes of lures/colours it ws amazing to see masses of fish around a lure but not touching it, change the colour/shape the fish where fighting to get a hold of it. However each days results proved that the same colour/lure didn't work all the time, it changed from day to day. That is why I always advise anglers, if you are not getting anything change your lure, look around the boat, you will see that someone is catching more fish than anyone else, see what colour/shape/type he is using.

Good stuff thanks fellas - thanks. There was me thinking a nice pot of hammerite or white gloss would do the trick!

Looks like a job for the kids over the summer holidays - will do a few in dark colours and let you know if anything intetresting turns up!

I read somewhere that it is the pirk hitting the bottom which attracts the fish-similar to a fish feeding in sand.
mick.

got black and purple to try out (spray paint) as well as the obligatory silver (foil tape like wot Keith said)

tried pink and also copper...anything is worth a try really
