Could anybody give me some good cod marks that myself and nephew (12yrs old) can fish, from whitburn to hendon as he has been fishing for five months now and is desperate for a cod. stew
Stew, you may be a bit restricted with the young un in tow? Sea state along that part of the coast is probably as important as the marks. Big seas dropping off. For trouble free fishing with a small chance of codling then Roker Pier or Rathouse Corner. There are marks around Hendon but access is restricted and can be very dangerous. Whitburn beach fishes well and the Rocks at the Northern end are also a good shot but again be careful.
Plenty of fish on Blyth Pier through the daytime down to LW the last two days. I saw cod to 6lb both days and one lost right at the top of the lift yesterday about 9lb the end was the place to be but it was too crowded for me :casstet: . One lad on there had 6 or 7 on consectutive chucks all of them 2-4lb. A young lad there, casting out short with small rag and mackerel baits and had cod of 6lb 3oz and 5lb 15oz.
Stew,
Ell\'s right about the Whitburn area being a bit iffy (especially if you\'re looking for suitable locations for the young\'n.
There are some areas along the Whitburn coast that can be VERY dangerous and I wouldn\'t recommend anybody goes alone or with a youngster.
You could try The Wherry (just South of Souter Lighthouse). When I say that it\'s a clifftop mark, you may think that that too, sounds a bit \"iffy\" - but it\'s not really.There\'s a canny sized flat area on the cliff top to fish from. This is a good spot when there\'s a big sea on - infact - the bigger the better, I\'ve been told.
There\'s a pic here to help you identify where I\'m talking about.......
As regards the other end of your range - never fished the Hendon area, so I can\'t comment, I\'m afraid.
stew hendon has some real quality marks 2 fish but most r not legal the sea needs a good easterly 2 get it fishing.my only suggestion round hendon would b the prom that is pretty safe as is the 4 mentioned marks of the rathouse and roker pier or roker and seaburn beach but all of these need a good easterly 2 spark them up as i mentioned b4 hope this helps m8.nowt better than seeing the kids catch canny fish!!.(as long as they r not bigger than mine ).
Stew, I must agree with what the other lads have said. I suppose the best way to get to know some of these marks is to get someone to go with you the first couple of times. Maybe a shout on the board? Where are you based and when can you normally get out.
