Money seemed to buy so much when I was younger...for example I could get the Bus (return fare), go swimming and still have change to buy something from the Joke Shop and some sweets

What did people buy with their pocket money as kids?

Matches for our Tabs
Tabs
Matches for our Petrol
And Lighter gas to boff

And still had change from a dubloon

Kets were payed for by grandparents and damp smelling men in duffle jackets

I think when i was 13 i got five pound a week and generally use to spend it on ragworm and sinkers!! After that i got a weekend job and the pocket money dried up!! Five pound just wasn't enough to cover my cider at the weekend aswelll!!!

What did people buy with their pocket money as kids?

I'd often spend my joke shop money on Bovril from the machine at Hetton Baths - The nearest proper joke shop was next to the sunderland empire - to far to go for black face soap that never worked and itching powder that should have been banned by the geneva convention.

The joke shop blew up I believe (Honest) a fitting end - I wasn't there but I bet the roof went straight up and then the walls folded out like petals on a big brick flower thing.

Went to a friends 18th when I was a kid with just a Fiver (borrowed from Mother)

That night night I:

• Got trollied
• Snogged a girl I'd always fancied
• Scrapped with a lad who was chatting up another girl I'd always fancied
• Got more trollied

ended up giving the Fiver back to my Mum having not actually spent it

My secret?

"I won't be stopping long as I've only got a fiver" (with a suitably sad face)

the sympathy drinks flowed all night long LOL

I always used my pocket money, milk round money and quite often starved and used my dinner money to pay for football matches. Don't think I'd be so keen these days
