Pre baited hook snoods.

Thinking of using pre baited hook snoods make them up and stick them in the freezer. Is this a good idea? Will it work? What's the best rig to use?

Yes it works. Good way to recycle left over lugworm - make up some rigs with a clip for the snood swivel, make up the snoods with a swivel or a blood loop, bait up as usual with the leftover lug once you get home then bung in the freezer.

Take the frozen snoods to the beach in a wide mouthed flask, take out as needed, clip on to the rig and off you go. I've had stacks of Whiting and codling to 4lb using leftover bait like this.

Freezing line effect breaking strain?

Good idea. Will give it a go but I do wonder what it'll do to the breaking point of the line?

do a line test put one in the freezer for a week and see how far you can stretch before it snaps.i've been freezing baits on the snood for a while now and in my opion does'nt affect the strength at all.

A domestic freezer ony goes down to -18 - -20 degrees. Shouldn't have any effect whatsoever on nylon monofilament and I certainly never noticed any.

Of course fresh bait is (almost) always best, but this is a great way of making use of leftover lugworm that otherwise doesn't freeze very well.

Been freezing big balls of mussel on 6/0 vmc hooks with 60lb snoods, i've lifted fish to 8lb up the side of newbiggin cliffs and never had any problems with the line snapping.

No need to freeze bait on the hooks, just sharpen one end of a grip wire then slide your bait on - Mussel - squid - razor - peeler bits of mackie ect. Bind the cocktail tight with elastic thread and slide them off and put in a container and freeze them. When you go fishing they go straight on the hook with a bit extra binding of thread, saves loads of baiting up time.

Why not, its where its going to end up?!?


I bait traces up as per normal, wrap in cling film and put them in the freezer. When its time to go out, take what you need in a flask, take one out, take the cling film off and cast it out.

I've had plenty of fish up to 7lbs on it,and its a hell of a lot quicker than the method you use
