questions please

When Graham first posted this as an opportunity for us here in the NE to ask a question to David Miliband it immediately struck me that there is only one question that he ought to ask. Time is important to an MP and he is unlikely to be prepared to spend 2 or three hours explaining the intricacies of the white paper to one angler here in the NE.

So I emailed Graham with my suggestion of a question and that was "Would he be prepared to meet local anglers here in the NE on a face to face basis and answer questions before the closing date for the consultation on the white paper, be that specifically from his constituents or from the NE anglers as a whole?"

Graham has agreed that this is of far more benifit to us as local anglers in the NE than individual questions on a variety of topics. He has had a reply from David Miliband to say that he is prepared to meet him and myself ( in a capacity as the regional co-ordinator for the SACN and a member of the NSFC)and this is the question we will ask.

Depending on the time allowed and his answer to that question we will ask other questions as suggested here...but it is of far greater benifit to us all if we can manage to put such a meeting together.

If the answer we get is a Yes we will move heaven and earth to make sure the meeting takes place and allows NE RSA's to have their say.

I hope people agree that this is a very relevant question and would be in the inttrest of all NE sea anglers.

Cheers
Dave

Apologies for flippancy but - if anyone's ever been to a weigh in at a big open comp, the Face to Face thing would scare the dibbins out of any half normal civilian let alone a finely honed beast like Millipede

Davem2005 and sless : Well done to you both, we need voices in this sport and your doing a grand job at putting our point across, i just hope they listen to us because if they dont then this sport as we know it is doomed!( in the style of the bloke in dads army!)
Charlie_Thompson : You talk a lot of sense but i love coming on here and reading your posts! Your a loony and i regularly wet myself reading your ramblings! Hero hero hero!

Meeting.

Meeting.

Sless and Davem2005; Good luck for your meeting lads and like you say there are many quetions that need answers so thanks in advance for your efforts.
Personaly If I could be assured that this planned license had our interests at heart then maybe I would welcome such a move.
However from what I have seen of it so far there are a lot of grey areas that need clarification, for instance the proposed restrictions on bait collecting (remember we have been here before on this one!) and angling within the zones or MPA's (marine protected areas). What and where will these zones be? Aren't we losing enough areas where we used to fish?
New Labour said when the hunting with dogs bill was imposed that it had no intention of targeting anglers but look what is being proposed now, or maybe it is just a case that someone has took notice of how many anglers there are, done the maths and thought "this will rake in the cash".
I hope not.
