Literally fished an hour and a half of the flood this afta to use up a few yellows. Had 6 chucks and 4 fish all the same stamp. Then the tide turned and all the shoite started coming down so I done a bunk.

I am new to the area and have just moved into a house in Tynemouth and was wanting a nice easy venue to fish to start me off. Was thinking about fishing the river at the Fish Quays at North Shields and any tips would be very welcome? Cheers Lads

I heard its very snaggy mate but don't fish much on the north side, last I heard further up river was fishing better so St Peters or somewhere like that might be worth a try. Smiths Dock is also a good shot on its day on the North side.

Thanks Magpies - other place that looks good is the beach at Tynemouth - was going to try low water on Wednesday? - anybody any tips on where might be fishing ok?

would be better off heading up river to walker area pottery bank, riverside park, st peters, os nearer smiths docks on the smaller tides, you need a big chuck at fish quay to clear snags. davy.

low water on wed is 12.30 miday or 12 39 wed night, fishs well at nightime but not so good during the day unless you hit the northend slaty gut or the southend bathing pool skeer,if any type of sea on surfers will be out on the middle of the beach. davy.

Thanks David - will try the bathing pool skeer at low water, assume a couple of hours before and after? What sort of distance do I need to cast and what's the ground like? Any tips on bait end gear? Sorry for so many question's :yltype:

Are there any local clubs you would recommend I could join for advice and tips?

Once again thanks very much for the advice.

Hello mate, people are right in what they are saying, the quay can be very snaggy. I fished by the pilot boat pontoon yesterday, to be honest it's the first time I've fished the river for well over a year. Avoid massive tides unless you fish an hour either side on them because that's all you'll get. You need to be chucking a good distance otherwise you might as well kick your box over the side. Smiths dock is a much better option which offers consistent fishing most of the time.

Good luck.

Fished 2 hours down and 1 up and caught my first ever Tynemouth codling - a lovely 3lber - thanks very much for everybody's help and advice
