osprey.jpg

what do you think , 240 hp on the back to make a fast fishing canoe ?

:p

looks like a topper or mirror

canny wee boats to learn to sail in, and if you don't mind getting a bit wet can go scary fast with a good breeze

Not a Topper...

Or a Mirror...

which is basically a bathtub with a sail...:o

Looks like it could be a National 12...in one of my previous lives I was big into Dinghy sailing and sailed every weekend at Derwent with the faux Yachty types...I enjoyed the sailing part but not the "scene"...4x4s on Posh Housing Estate types

It's great fun though...I always wanted to try "heaving to" which creates a perfect drift fishing situation...if you had the balls to try it 3 miles out in the North Sea you could have some great laughs :o:D

its an osprey

dont know what to do with it but it comes with mast and no sails

they do use them at sea

any one ever seen a sailing dingy with a fish finder before ? LOL

I flogged a set of sails on ebay the would have fit perfect, came off a 12 footer.

get it sailed!

one of the things I'm really looking forward to with the panser is getting some canvas up while fishing. get it trimmed correctly and you stop dead over a wreck or set whatever drift speed you want, keep it nose into the wind/sea so you end up with a very stable fishing platform

been looking here

Google Image Result for http://www.tenbysailingclub.org.uk/ospreytraining180207.jpg

looks good in full tilt , would it still be ok with a smaller sail set on it ? (i know not as fast but that is not a concern to me
just need to do something with the 2 big holes in the transom that drain it if i an going to have it parked some place out at sea and a water proof locker of some sorts for a couple of boat rods

ooh ooh i dont have any boat rods will have to go shopping again :p:p:p

fit 'elephant trunks' to the bilge drains, same as used on bigger ribs, you lift em up when stationary and drop em when moving, the drain holes should have none return rubbers in them already, but they are not terribly reliable if stationary for a long while

its not necessarily the size of sails, its how much is up and how its trimmed at any given time. you can put relatively huge sails on very small dinghys, but then end up sitting on a trapeze while you moving to stop you falling over

the sails in the pic look ok, the spinnaker on the nearest one would fair make it shift with a good breeze. we could get 15knots plus out of a 12 foot mirror dinghy, but its tiring work as you've got to give it 100% attention all the time at those sort of speeds. 6 to 8 knots would be a nice leisurely speed to get out the piers with not too much sail.

I know we've got the space but pitching a tent on deck is just extravagant

any one know if "gp14 "sails would be ok for the osprey ?

need to know real soon as there's some on flea bay ending in 2 and a bit hours

check the sizes, luff leech and foot. If the foot is the same length as the boom on yours, and the luff is the same length as the the mast from the boom to the top, they'll work, might need to swap fittings around depending on whats on the mast, but in principle,,,,

picked it up today , its way bigger than i thought :) looked funny sticking out the back of the sprinter by about 2 meters :D
have the mast to pick up but thats going to be way too long to fit it in the van might have to do something odd to tie it on top

will post a pic when i have it cleaned up a bit
