With the sun shining, the winds dropping and me going stir crazy having not been out since March 2nd I decided on a little session at the Rathouse this afternoon. With HT at 16:00 I got down there for just after half one to find just a couple of others fishing. Got set up at the second bench after the old pier, two rods one down the side and the other lobbed into the middle of the channel. Two hook flappers on each, size 2 hooks and just Bluey out of the freezer for bait.

Wasn't long before the down the side rod was nodding away and a little coalie was landed to beat the blank. This one went back safely, unlike the next one which was pounced upon by my new best fishing buddy...

Not long after it was the turn of the other rod to go, a few little nods and I lifted into a reasonable fish that turned out to be a Flounder of around 40cm:

This was followed soon after by a long but skinny Whiting, again to the long rod:

My friend the Cormorant was doing very well now, that Whiting was nabbed and swallowed whole, it even had a go at the Flounder but it proved too big for it.

More small Coalies were coming to the down the side rod, I also had another Whiting and an undersize codling on the longer rod before just as I was about to pack in at 5pm the down the side rod went mental and I landed a nice 37cm Coalie

All in all a cracking afternoons sport, 11 fish in 3 1/2 hours all taken on Bluey. When the wind dropped away it was even quite pleasantly warm, though it was still bitter when it was gusting in off the sea.

Ok mate I didn't think it looked too bad when I was emptying the bins at whitburn this morning, there were a few people digging bait on the beach too
