never fished it before....can you fish it all states of the tide.. off on Tuesday but all tides are crap thought I might venture up to the rathouse and give it a go....better than sitting in the house. thanks lads in anticipation

I think the place is crap mate. Personally I would rather stay in the house watching the x-factor than fish the ratty. That's my experience of the place anyway

It is what it is. You will get Whiting and Flounder from the channel, drop another rod down the side and you will be inundated with small Coalfish with the chance of a decent one in among them. Always the chance of a surprise fish from further out but don't hold your breath waiting for one.

It is a very easy place to fish, sheltered from northerly winds and you won't lose any gear. On the other hand it is a craphole, like most easy fishing spots it attracts more than it's share of muppets who think it's fine to leave discarded hooks, line, bait wrappings and whatever else lying around.

And yes it fishes throughout the tide

I agree with all the comments but can say it's the place my mate mad rob caught his biggest cod from last year and it was a beauty glad to help him hand ball it up

That's a cracker! Well done Rob.

I like the ratty for species hunting and have had up to seven species per session regularly but it's not a venue for big fish. It depends what you are after.

Where is the rathouse and if you catch fish there why is it so unpopular????
Sounds like a good mark to me.
roker mate fishing the river on one side and the bay on the other.
I have had cod upto 7lb from the end but the council has now fenced it all off.
The other end where the boats are is also a good spot.

Sorry Kayos for asking the obvious if your from the north east. I am not and travel to your part of the uk to fish.

Cheers Danny boy for the info..

On the whole its absolute garbage, fished in a huge northerly where everywhere else is unfishable it will always hoy the very odd big fish out

The cormorants is a better mark in all honesty though

When the whities are in though its just about unbeatable in a match

Fished it last wednesday complete waste of time. Not enough space to move 1.5hrs of my life i will never get back. 2tiny codling and 2 tiny whiting is all it produced.

That is the Old pier, which can throw up some good bags and big fish in the right conditions. The Rathouse is in front of the yacht club.
It got its name from the rat house corner at the upriver end where the yachts are moored which was once infested with them.
