mark normally uses a garden fork or hand grenades
not entirely true.....
had more success with spinners than flies, something shiny - dexter, abu koster usually,
on the fluffy front, silver blue and teal, in big sizes or something mcukle that you might use for pollack/mackeral, - clouser minnow, stuff like that.
under the bridge at stanhope is a good spot but casting is a bit strange, theres some rocks about 6 foot above the water on bank wjere the main footpath is but because of the low trees above you sort of have to side cast but with your rod below you, cast under the bridge, let the current take it downstrean as it sinks then whip yer fly back past thee buggers!
pot luck in the wier, cast into the bottom of the drop and let the water wash the fly to the bottom and downstream as you retrieve
best times are just before dusk and into the early night, which is mental, as the bit by the bridge get so dark it feel like your trying to cast a fly inside a sleeping bag at times..sometime you hit the bridge, sometime tress above, sometimes the opposite side and if your luckt occasionally in the water, up by the weir is not so bad as there\'s at least a bit of clearance
if all else fails a 36\" carp landing net is quite effective, or there are allegedly dark tales of certain individuals tying 6 to 10 size 6 trebles an inch or so apart on a handline and jiggin it up and down from the bridge
