rock mark advice

im thinking of doing some rock marks this year instead of the usual piers and beaches, can anyone point me to some good marks between whitley bay and blyth that are decent but without losing too much gear. cheers. ive got some good runnydown frozen so i want to make the most of it instead of wasting it on tiddlers on the pier. cheers.... gaz

Theres loads of marks mate, but most are heavy on the end gear. I would try the pipe at whitley bay for a first go. easy to get on & off, relativley deep water & not eye-wateringly snaggy. (Don't go on if theres too much sea running!)

Ones I've had luck at are - cullercoats on the south breakwater, only ever fished that on the high tide, rough but not too bad if you find the right spot, lose less gear since you're higher up so get the "lift" rather than dragging over the rocks. Collywell bay at s/sluice, just a case of wandering and trying different spots, never done well there though and yet others clearly do. Back of the pub above the harbour at sluice (Kings arms?), clamber down and just wander trying different spots, had some nice fish from there but hit and miss and darned snaggy.

For Cullercoats I use junk for sinkers, cleaned off spark-plugs etc, you don't need a long cast and there's no point wasting leads when you can get sparkers for nowt from any garage.

Castle rocks @ tynemouth on a low tide.
whitley pipe can be good after a lumpy sea
west bay or crisps gully @ st mary's after a northerly.
Cambois rocks at blyth.

If you want to fish rock marks mate you gotta expect to loose a few leads/rigs. every sesh
Damage limitation, keeping it simple keeps it cheaper.

sound advice lads, im used to loosing gear anyway as i used to fish south shields pier and thats a tackle graveyard!!. ill be using rotten bottoms so shouldnt be too bad.

After a nasty experience many moons ago I would advise you not to visit any low water rock marks in the dark on your own even if you 'think' you know the ground. Tak a M8 M80.
