The wife dropped me off just before 9am this morning, walking up the pier i noticed alot of weed & the water was still a dirty brown...
Got to the end of the pier & set up by about 9.20am (its a canny walk).
Put the pier rod out about 50yds with macky strip & set up the spinning rod with a set of silver tinsel type feathers + spinner, before i could cast the 2nd rod out i got what seemed like a decent knock & brought in a small plaice (only just a little bigger than my hand).
Rebaited, lobbed it back in & done half hours worth of spinning with no luck only pulling in 1 small coalie.
Took the feathers off & fished 2 rods with mackerel strip pulling in another small plaice (could of sworn it was the same one) & just as i was about to return it a loud voice bellowed over "oi mate div'nt chuck that back, a'll have it for the dogs" without even responding to the f**kwit i put it back & watched it swim away, shortly after the same fella caught a flattie that was no bigger & kept it, not only did he keep it but also slipped it straight into a NETTO bag without even putting it out if its misery first!
Tried to explain the lack of fish, that they have to be of decent size to keep etc & the need to give fish a decent whack on the head, but his can of John Smiths & the empties strewn all round his gear meant i wasnt gonna get anywhere with him or his also intoxicated friend.
Carried on fishing with only another 2 or 3 small coalies, nobody brought any mackerel or sizeable fish in all morning.
Quite alot of boats went out, i counted 10-12 in the few hours i was on the pier & most headed a few miles from hendon with a few just off the drums, so a few reports might be on here later if they done well.
I packed the gear up & timed it just right so i could have a cheeky pint sitting in the sun outside the Queen Vic while i waited for the wife, happy days.
