The wife dropped me off just before 9am this morning, walking up the pier i noticed alot of weed & the water was still a dirty brown...

Got to the end of the pier & set up by about 9.20am (its a canny walk).

Put the pier rod out about 50yds with macky strip & set up the spinning rod with a set of silver tinsel type feathers + spinner, before i could cast the 2nd rod out i got what seemed like a decent knock & brought in a small plaice (only just a little bigger than my hand).

Rebaited, lobbed it back in & done half hours worth of spinning with no luck only pulling in 1 small coalie.

Took the feathers off & fished 2 rods with mackerel strip pulling in another small plaice (could of sworn it was the same one) & just as i was about to return it a loud voice bellowed over "oi mate div'nt chuck that back, a'll have it for the dogs" without even responding to the f**kwit i put it back & watched it swim away, shortly after the same fella caught a flattie that was no bigger & kept it, not only did he keep it but also slipped it straight into a NETTO bag without even putting it out if its misery first!

Tried to explain the lack of fish, that they have to be of decent size to keep etc & the need to give fish a decent whack on the head, but his can of John Smiths & the empties strewn all round his gear meant i wasnt gonna get anywhere with him or his also intoxicated friend.

Carried on fishing with only another 2 or 3 small coalies, nobody brought any mackerel or sizeable fish in all morning.

Quite alot of boats went out, i counted 10-12 in the few hours i was on the pier & most headed a few miles from hendon with a few just off the drums, so a few reports might be on here later if they done well.

I packed the gear up & timed it just right so i could have a cheeky pint sitting in the sun outside the Queen Vic while i waited for the wife, happy days.

Great report there Macka but unfortunately 'anglers' like the one you mention are, sadly, all over the UK and not just on Roker pier.....

I'm sure there is a sign at the gate on Roker pier saying that it is an alcohol free zone?
I could be wrong...

it wouldn't make any difference they can't read.

Not sure about the sign but considering the 2 fellas were late 40's to early 50's you expect better behavior, it was nice to see some young lads (16-17yrs old) who'd been on all night fishing, take there empties, old line & wrappers off with them & even offering me what bait they had left...

i aRRIVED AT ROKER
PIER, yetsrday at 9pm. i passed a lad walking off who was going for a tray of fosters who said he was was staying up,for the macky.
he asked me what the prospects where and i said ,sh#t mate. he said why, and i said, well, the seas got a swell on, the spratt is all well spread out and macky will chase them into deep water. he said what the **** do you know and im stopping anyway. after ****ting and ****ing all over the round end, the sun rose to the sound of crackoffs like helmand province.they caught f#ck all and i stilll replied to every knob heed who walked on the pier and shouted at me "GOR OWT MATE"

Fished it this morning (17th) from 6.30-9.30 caught 3 mackerel but only saw about a dozen pulled in, left as the nuggets started to arrive.

I also fished Roker pier this morning got there at 3:30am just in time for sunrise, it was an amazing morning. Got nothing for about an hour spinning then got my first bite and managed to catch a Gurnard! Was pretty pleased with myself as this was the first of this species i'd ever caught even though admitedly i was'nt sure exactly what it was until another guy told me. Apparently they used to be quite common but not so much anymore. Then just before i left to go home and get ready for work at 7:00 i pulled in 2 decent sized Macky which i just had tonight for my tea and they were very nice grilled. Enjoyed the short session even though ive been knackered at work all day but yes there were definetly a few nuggets knocking about, fortunatly the one's i encountered seemed pretty harmless while i was there.

Well done fella, good to sea the mackerel are creeping back inshore...

Had a walk along the pier earlier with the wife & dog (8pm'ish), lads on the roundhead only had 2 mackerel for 3 hours fishing but pulling small coalies in aswell, walking off the pier bumped into my uncle fishing halfway along the pier & he'd just pulled 2 mackerel in along with a few coalies every other cast, he was getting them on daylites & water seems to be clearing up a bit.

Gonna get out on the boat tomorrow for a really early start, will let you all know how it goes.

aye mate the nuggets get all over they just dont realise they're spoiling it for everybody else cos they'll just close the pier like they did at tynemouth.

once when i was fishing the south west coast of scotland i saw a polish guy catch a plate sized thornback. he removed the hook, then decided to cut its tail off before returning it. i told him what i thought about it and he told me it will be fine. the next person to catch it wont be pricked by the thorns!!!!!!
