have you ever had one of them days when theres plenty of bites but hooking the fish is a nightmare,i had seven bites last night before i managed to hook one ,maybe they were small fish, but a couple seemed decent bites.the one i hooked was only small then one just insize.
my mate had one of 3.5lb that had a six inch whiting in two smaller whitings and five or six crabs so maybe they werent feeding properly as thered been a big sea on in cumbria.
i had one memorable day like this a few years ago i had 12 good bites and managed to hook one by a sliver of skin on its lip, which fell off as i lifted it out. :casstet:

Coalies are a favourite for picking bait up without hooking themselves tz. Seen some great \"slack liners\" and very rarely manage to strike into them. I\'ve dropped hook sizes when I get bites without results & have been amazed at the rattle a 6\" whiting can give.

If you know coalies are about drop the hook size. Places like Eyemouth getting loads of bites on 4/0\'s with nowt hooked. Drop to 1/0 and will probably connect a few. Not as big in the gob as cod.

Even smaller for rockling though! Is that right Zippie ;)

aye they are frustrating things them coalies we had a run of them last backend and they were a nightmare when you were after cod.the hooks were coming back bare even with a whipped on crab bait, how the hell they done it i dont know
