Me and Phil185 headed down to the Target last night for around 8pm. We had planned a short session until around midnight since Phil had work in the morning. We arrived and the tide was too far out to fish the cliffs but not far enough to get down the steps without getting wet, leading to a rather unconventional route down with a few leaps involved (NOTE: Anyone planning to fish around this area watch out for falling cliffs as there were large chunks of cliff falling down as we fished, wouldn't want one on your head!).

We set up on the pipe and put out some large lug, rag and squid baits. First cast I had an undersized codling which swam back to grow. As the tide dropped we were moving down the pipe whilst letting the rods fish. Phil was watching the rods as I moved the boxes and bait down when he said my rod had a huge lunge followed by masses of slack line. He reeled in the slack but there was nothing there.

After a couple of hours the frozen crab was ready to go so we baited up and within 5 minutes Phil had a bite and it seemed like a good one. Unfortunately it got snagged up in the rocks which were in the surf about 50 yards out. We tried everything to get it loose but it wouldn't budge so Phil just had to pull for the break. Gutted to say the least but promising for the next time.

That was the end as we had to head home but at least we didn't blank :p

Well done Gav. I,ve seen the Target rock in the ditance when fishing the hall beach. Looks a canny way to go.

Mick.

Its a cracking mark down there mick, well worth the extra 5 mins drive up the road from the hall. Ive caught more cod down there in the last 2 sessions than i ever have on the hall beach.
