S/s open air swimming pool

Anyone have much info on the open air swimming pool in south shields?
I have heard it was 100 yards down the pier and others say it still remians under the laser quasar building in the fair

Apparently there is a pipe just at the start of the pier that has something to do with this and have also heard it was a salt water pool

I have also heard that the pool is under the fair Chris. Can't remember where I got that from though. There are quite a few pics of it on Google images and it looks to be where the fair is now.

Yeah i seen the pics mark but doesnt seem to be much info on it compared to the likes of the one in tynemouth

looking at picture you coud be right, judging the position of pier it looks as if it was approx the position of fair, by the way have lived in shields nearly all my life an remember swotting up to do an essay at school about south shields and never even came across any info about a swimming pool also it was only 1 of the few school projests that i ever got a good mark in lol

no rod he spent all of his time swimming at the outdoor pool thats him in the for ground of the pic with the skull cap on not wanting to get his locks wet lol

i bet there was some tiny willys there that water will be cold if its like the tynemouth pool and them knitted cossys were great

Just spoke to my dad (who is 87)and he said it was on the edge of south marine park,about 100 yards down from where the new one is being built,oh and he said it was freezing so he only went in once

spoilt a good thread / read, again. (i m no angel either like, re banter, but these lads take it just that step too far, making it not funny at all)

The only info i found was that:
the salt-water baths under the quasar are not the same open air baths which were about a 100 yards down from the pier, sourced from google

Glad we're back on track again
One of the lads on the pier yesterday, can't remember who said it, said that he'd been talking to a fella who remembered the open air pool and it was situated more or less where the new swimming pool is being built.

been swotting up in library`and have found a couple pics of the
pool with a bit info and says open air swimming pool on the north forshore, below the east side north marine park seating all round with spring board and slide dated 1937

i can remember as a boy going to fish geordies jetty passing the old pool about 100 yards along from the new pool. the road goes over the top of where it used to be.
