Salt Beach MX

Hi lads the bairn wants a 12' salt beach mx for xmas, now I have never used a multi reel (yet), it's just arrived and as this rod is a multi rod I have noticed there is no reel seat it's just the rubber grip stuff and a but reducer.

Do I need to buy a separate reel seat for it,? also it came with these 2 plastic things can anyone tell me what these are, I really appreciate any help, cheers.

those two plastic things are coasters you put the 1st coaster on then the rod, then put the reel on then another coaster and you place them over the foot of the multiplier on both sides and tighten them up when you have the reel in position then trim off the excess. IMO you would be better off getting a proper reel seat for it like a abu grip lock but that is just me.

Thanks alot for that info Adam and Terry, I had an idea they were for the reel but I can't believe they are supposed to hold a reel on. Guess I need to buy a reel seat then I don't want his reel to fall off and break when he's out fishing.

i use an abu reel seat(smallest diameter) on mine but its still too big so use a toilet roll tube cut in half wrapped round then taped up,worked fine on mine
rustik

Cheers for heads up mate, I'm thinking of getting the abu one Adam mentioned for him the bairn likes the look of that and that he can move it up or down. Just been to reel sport aswell and forgot to ask Terry what he has instore DOH.

I went for a standard reel seat for mine and just put tape on the butt section until I could just force it into position, then taped it up. worked a treat - I think it was a 30mm reel seat dia ? the 26 / 28 were too tight

I would definatly go for a reel seat instead of coasters, or even them cable tie things that came with it, i have the 13ft version its a thin rod, the problem with it is that the very bottom of the rod is abit bigger than the rest of the rod so you have to get the next size reelseat up from what you should need. I have a griplock reelseat on mine, but its abit slack, i have to have mine within afew inch of the bottom of the rod, but as said you could get around this by using tape.

There should be a little plug thing that came with it, this goes in the butt of the rod if you dont plan on using the reducer, i superglued mine in if i didnt i would of lost it by now:D.

Interesting posts lads thanks, what is the reducer actually used for, is that to lengthen the rod for having it reel down and is reel down basically at the bottom of butt section.

Is the reducer for when bringing fish in to lengthen the rod to get some leverage on it. I am just wondering I dunno how the bairns planning on using whatever he goes for the reel seat, like I already said we are multiplier reel noobs.

My multi when I get it I can just use it on my FS salt long surf rod with the reel seat it already has, I didn't realise multi rods were so different.

Instead of reel seat mate you could buy a pair of quality coasters which would do the job no bother. Just looking at them things in yer pick looks like some sort of cable tie coaster, never seen them but going from the pic I wouldn't want to use them to strap any reel on.

its gotta be reel aseat. i prefer the abu it gives you the extra grip where you can wrap pour finger round in comfort

probs best off going to reelsport with the rod and talk to terry and he will give you the best advice and different options for your fishing situations your likely to use it for

Just with Shaun mentioning the thicker dia at the start of the butt mate I thought I'd give an option. I always use a reel seat on my main rod but my other rod has coasters and ave never had a problem strapping a sl30 on mate.

What I have done with new rods in the past is to use coasters at first until you find the reel position you are most comfortable casting with, then fit a reel seat in that position. It depends on whether you keep your rods or are one of these anglers who buy and sell rods every two minutes. If you are looking at sell on value, an adjustable reel seat would be the way to go.

Thanks for all the info lads I appreciate it alot, the lad keeps all his rods so gonna let him make his call with regards to what he is going to do about coaster or reel seat.

LOL mad as a fish that thread is mental lol, again the lad can read through this thread and choose if he wants to use the reducer or extender lol. All top info though lads thanks very much.
