Thinking of getting a black saltist 20, are they any good for casting say in comparison with a 525 2. I have the 30 but use it with heavy line so its hard to get a comparison of what the 20's are like. (just for fishing by the way). Cheers for advice in advance lads.

Hmm its leaving me torn now, because I like the 525's, gona take some thinking about this. Outcast do you not miss the control of the mags and do you have both small blocks in the twenty.

Just got rid of a Penn 515 which I didn't like and got a Saltist 20bg. Had it Magged & casts superbly now and smooth as silk on retrieve too. Quality Reel.

Well I never, I always thought saltists were just a winching tool!

Got an old silver Saltist 20 that was mono-magged by Martin Watson and it absolutely flies. It's also just an all round nicer reel to use than the 525 Mag (though I've still got my 525 and it still gets plenty of use)

So it seems you have to get the 20's magged to get some performance

I use the 20s (and 30's) just as they are - no need to get them magged for performance; it would only give you a bit more adjustment to suit conditions etc. or if you're one of those who like to twiddle their knob during the cast ;) I'm quite happy running mine on two of the tiny, white brake-blocks - safe as houses in any fishing conditions for me.

Gary :)
