aye same bud, my tripod has a bent leg rust spots the little hook is missing, i fancy a spike, but id miss having somewhere to hang my bait and next rig! and a spike would be easyer and lighter to carry, they dont seen pricey so might just try one haha :)

NO TINMAN , dont do it , buying an aluminium sandspike is nee good for 'our' beach . i have one and has been a dissapointment so far. me and beachboy are thinking of getting one made from heavier material . u can borrow mine if u want.

Been using my aluminium sand spikes for over 25 years on beaches at Horden, blast,Seaham hall,Lynemouth and the holderness beaches and they are still going strong.

I made these spikes from aluminium scafold polls cut out and one piece jobs they are very strong lightweight and easy to fit between my tackle box and the back rest so don't even need a holdall to carry them.

I then use a small telescopic poll with two upturned hooks that fits into my box and hang my traces on that.

But I do agree the shop bought ones are rubbish.
cheers lads
