Sea Angling Survey 2012
I and other charter skippers received a phone call the other day from a Ms Sarah Crosby from a survey company called Substance who are carrying a survey for DEFRA. They have a website Substance and the MMO have a website Sea Angling 2012 .

She asked if I would take part in a sea angling survey which I declined on the grounds that any activity involving DEFRA and Angling in the past has ended up disadvantaging the Anglers.

I am sure they use websites like NESA to gain information on catches and what’s going on.
Looks like this is the thin end of the wedge.

Sarah has aked on here before for catch statistics, amounts, species etc...never replied myself like....:exclam:

thought that was sarah aftergood:question:

trouble with these surveys,
your dammed if you participate and dammed if you dont:exclam:

and also they are only capturing a small section of the boat fishing community:exclam:

The whole thing is laughable the chartereboats here down at whitby have had the same thing pushed at us these people are being paid by defra to do this survey and they are panicking because nobody wants to know they should be more interested in what the now massive seal population eats every day rather than what a anglers take on a rod and line it was only a month or so ago there was 12 french trawlers working in a grid 12 mile of whitby taking everything in there path and they are winging on about anglers the problem is they need somebody to police as there is hardly any commercial fishermen left the day a man with a rod and line in the north sea gets bag limits is when its gone mad.

d'ya think they'll know about me pollock ? :o

there is a coincidence if you think about it......
Photo of a massive Pollock....."hot topic on the streets", our lass heard 2 women talking pollocks at the post office......"talk of the dock"....etc etc

Yeah...it coz of you !!

flights are booked......wahoo

That's it then, no more catch reports on nesa, wouldn't want to let anyone know what we are catching would we?
Maybe we need a secret code like enigma so we can tell each other where the fish are and how many are there and being caught without the authorities being able to spy on us
I'm sure there will be a way to scramble photographs and videos as well , we'll all have to go to a joining ceremony and swear allegiance whilst baring our right nipples and rolling up the left trouser leg of course but that's a minor price to pay to safeguard our fishing.
Remember lads , the walls have ears!!!

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Charter skippers are on thin ice with this one. Even if they wanted to take part in the survey, they have to be careful as they could be classed as breeching the Data Protection Act.

The people who hire the Charter Skipper have a right to keep details of their catch private and the skipper must ask their permission first if he can release the information regarding their catch to a third party such as DEFRA.

Very sticky ground indeed.

Well said Paul, great points, tell them to get up seal sands in the tees and look at that population, and calculate a daily intake of fish.....
