Just wondering if there is a completion date for the marina bieng finished. Its been going on for a while now, anyone know :question:

Looks good, do you think it will be ready for April, i see there are 131 names down for berths, have you got your name down Deano ?

its looking good for april it says it takes 5 weeks to install pontoons then they need to test the rams on the gates etc havent put my name down for moorings think ill stick to trailer for a bit as can go further a field with it tried to get price out of norman for moorings but he remained tight lipped he did however say it would be cheaper than hartlepool and sunderland possibly

Looks like there are quite a few larger moorings, which means owners with smaller boats might have to pay higher fees to get a mooring. Will there be a compound to store your boat in when it needs repairs etc.
Sunderland has this included in thier fees, you get 2 weeks storage a year, plus ramp fees are included as well.
I'm tempted to put my name down, loved launching my rib down there years ago, and fishing the marks off Hawthorn and Easington.

the actual completion date was set for end of march, , but ive been told it may just run over slightly to mid april.
I hope it doesnt run over too much because i certainly dont want to be hanging about.
There is apparently 130+ names down, but i feel some of these may not follow there interest through as there are a couple of minor inconveniences with mooring in Seaham.
The gate is tidal and they are talking about having it set to just over 1 metre of water then the gates start closing, so in theory if you miss the tide by 10 mins and the gates are closed you could be left hanging about for a few hours, more so on a bigger tide, this would be a problem with larger boats with bigger than 1 metre drafts.
Ove the years there has been a history of vandalism down seaham dock, boats broken into and in 1 case a boat set on fire, so security would need to be stepped up as the last thing i want to come down to is a boat plundered by thieves.
The cost of mooring in Seaham would have to be less than any of the other marinas mainly because of the tidal infringement, it would be a major put off to a lot of people.
I hope everything works out down in Seaham as i live literally 5 minutes walk from it so for me it would be an enormous bonus to have that on my doorstep rather than having to travel to sunderland.

Yes i remember a while back the boat owners had trouble with kids hurling stones off the top at the boats, dont know if the kids can get within throwing distance of the marina but with a bit luck all this will have been taken into consideration along with the security.
Regarding the draft size, if they increase it to say 1.5m to accomodate the larger boats, then the waiting time outside would be longer. Still i think if there was a mooring spare in April i might be tempted...

Some fantastic wrecks just off Seaham and bit further south, depending on prices and set up its worth a look when completed

Remember sending an email of interest nearly five years ago now, it's been a while getting going, but getting there now by the looks of it.
Will be interesting to see how the float system on the gate works out, wonder on average what times either side of low water it will be accessible.
Looking forward to seeing it all finished and berthing prices released.

Yes Codfather, i worked in the baitbox tackle shop and the lads who worked the boats in the harbour used to come in the shop and were always complaining about damage to the boats. Like you say hopefully this will have been sorted before the marina opens.
On a big tide, say 0.5m, does the outside of the lock gate actually dry out, or how much further would the tide drop, once the gate shut at the 1 metre minimum. Anyone know ?

On a big tide there is still water in the dock gates, but im not sure how much maybe 2-3 foot if that they should of dredged a channel.
They are going to do some trial runs with the gates and work out what to have the marina depth at before the gates close.
Security is my main concern im hopeful the marina premises are manned 24/7, but this may not be the case.
Just out of interest Jester are you thinking about trying Seaham out or are you happy at Sunderland?

Hi Falcon..Just weighing the situation up, i loved fishing from seaham going down and drifting off Hawthorn and the Facings etc ( home ground ). 
I think i will wait till it opens, have a walk round and make my mind up then, but yes if there were no major concerns i'd jump at the chance. But i would have to wait for a mooring to become available.
By the way i had a look at your boat on Saturday it looks fine..

People are under the impression there is a waiting list, which isnt the case, the moorings will be available on a first come first served basis.
I have heard the cost will be calculated by the half metre all though the actual cost is still unknown.
Il be down to my boat over the next few days as the wife has a few days off work so if this bit snotty weather dies down which its expected to i might get out.

Falcone ,I'm trying to get out over the weekend if i get this bl00dy water pump back together, if i dont get out ,leave some fish for me..
