Just joined the club and gonna give the south pier a try over high water one night this week. Any advice on various marks on the pier would be much appreciated.

not so bad on no3 42 has plenty of kelp in front of it best fished with a bit movement on but beware m8 can easy wash be safe

Many thanks mate, is it hard ground all over lads ? Does a good chuck help ?

Just a lob 70 yards at the 42 mark but if you go on number 3 area a long cast can be quite rewarding but don't expect much with the water flat mate it fishes better after a northerly blow ;)

Fished it a few times since the torture trail, sorry, the steps were built.
Only thing I had out was a small codling. That was caught between the piers into the harbour area. Cast from the south pier head towards the fist set of crumbling steps on the north pier into the middle.

No rocks, clean ground and the only thing to prevent a clean retrieval of lead is if you manage to foul up with the scrap metal ship leaving harbour.

I just don't think there's owt doing though. I had a good few tiny snatches at my bait last time out but this was more than likely from small species fish such as rockling.

The lad fishing down from me got two small coalies on feather, small feathers though, and that was in flat calm water, no colour and low water, ie not a very high tide.

To chance a heart attack getting up the damn steps it'll take a bit more of a favourable northerly for me. If I was a disabled member, not one of elderly age, I'd be a bit miffed as using the south pier is impossible for them.
